2. Jeans - don't need to be pressed and starched, but can be if you choose ...
3. Boots - from rock star trendy to on the farm cowboy boots ... doesn't matter! Wear w/ your jeans, a dress/skirt or whatever ... okay just don't wear w/ your shorts!
4. Layered clothing. Our weather is mostly sunny, but being desert, our temperatures can very 30 degrees F in a 24 hours period. Plan for both hot and cool climates while here, so layering is 'a good thing'.
5. SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN!!!! SPF15 at a minimum - regardless of the time of year. We are about a mile up, and even though you normally won't burn in the winter - your skin will be affected by the altitude :)
6. Moisturizer is imperative. Albuquerque is in the high desert and quite arid. Your body will shrivel like a raisin in the sun if you don't drink lots of water and use moisturizer!
7. Camera of your choice. The sky, architecture, and natural beauty is awe-inspiring. You don't want to go outside without your camera!
8. Walking shoes. You will wander the city, do day trips into the surrounding region and your feet will always appreciate good walking shoes.
9. Altitude sickness is a problem for many who travel here from sea level. It can be a simple as a headache, or more serious. Rest, WATER (an ounce per pound of body wieght please), and respecting your body's own messaging system are imperative :)
10. If you are prone to allergies, bring your usual stash of anti-allergy meds and remedies. Being in a dry environment can exacerbate your allergies.
11. Glasses. We have contact lens warnings on one of our local a.m. newscasts - those come up on our windy days. Also being dry, some find their contacts uncomfortable here - so bring your glasses to give your eyes a rest :) And of course, being the deset, don't forget your sunglasses! Leave a Comment

MOISTURIZER. Always bring moisturizer with you. The air is so dry.
Money - always ensure that you have VISA/Master Card, or travellers check or US Dollars. Because at the ABQ airport they don't have currency exchanger. But I'm not sure if taxi's do accept check or card, prepare cash instead. Leave a Comment

Sunscreen--you will burn.
Water--you may not realize how quickly you can get dehydrated.
Also, you may want to buy sunglasses if you don't already have them. My first week in Albuquerque, I got a headache every day in the afternoon. I eventually figured out that being from the Northeast, I just wasn't used to the higher voltage of sunshine. Leave a Comment

You can easily do a lot of walking in the Albuquerque area, so packing comfortable walking shoes is a must. In Old Town, for example, the sidewalks and streets are a mix of irregular old brick with steps up and down everywhere. Outside the city itself, there are many wonderful hiking trails along the bosque and in the Sandia Mountains to the east. Take it all in, as the views are breathtaking , but wear comfortable, safe walking shoes.
Our temperatures often fluxuate much as 30 degrees in one day, from night time temperatures in the 50's to noon time temps in the 90's during Summer, so plan to dress in layers.
Albuquerque is NOT a "fashionista place". We wear what we like, regardless of current fashions, although we do know how to dress up if the occasion dictates. Nice jeans and a shirt are totally acceptable in all but the top restaurants. Regardless of what you pack, do bring a hat of some kind as our sun here can heat you up quickly.
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. We're a mile high here and you will burn quickly without it.
Sunglasses with good UV protection are a must here. It's sunny most days here and at 5000 feet-plus in altitude, you'll be thankful that you remembered them. Leave a Comment

What you wear when going on outdoor trips here depends on the weather.
In the summer it can get in the upper 90's and winter the 20's. If you
go to the moutains you will have snow in the winter.
Always wear lite clothes in the summer, hidking shoes, sun screen and carry lots of water.
In the winter know the area your going to going south it will be warmer and cooler in the north.
Always drink and take a lot of water with you on a summer hike. Leave a Comment
