 | Glen House General Tips | Tips 1 - 7 of 7 | | Popular General Tips | Other General Tips Tips | All Tips (7) One final view of snow-capped Mount Washington. Hard to imagine that from the car park here, to the summit is an 8-mile drive. If you don't fancy the drive yourself, why not take one of the guided tours? During the open season these tours run between 8.s0 am and 5 pm daily. They take approximately 1 and a half hours, which includes a 30 minute stay at the top. Reservations are not required, nor are they accepted. If you fancy a tour, get there early, as there was quite a wait for trips when we visited. And, by the way, although we couldn't drive to the top, the guided tour mini buses did go all the way. Leave a Comment

Due to the recent snowfalls in New England, we could only drive just over half way up the Mountain. Mary was feeling rather chilly, as it was quite windy at almost 3,000 feet, but she insisted on playing in the snow, haha. Well, you just have to, don't you? Unfortunately it wasn't possible to see the summit of Mt. Washington, due to the proximity of other slopes. We could see plenty of snow on the caps of other peaks. Leave a Comment

Even when you leave Glen House (Mount Washington), the views along Highway 16 towards Conway (and beyond) are spectacular. In this view with Middle Carter Mountain (4645 feet) in the distance, the Lodge and Cafe building can be seen on the right of the photo. Leave a Comment

This is almost the tree-line on Mount Washington. The trees here aren't more than a few feet high, and much of the vegetation is scrub. There are various vistas along the road, and I seem to remember them all being on the downside. I would not recommend crossing the road to view!! Leave a Comment

Back at 'ground-level' again. We sat in the car park for some while, just watching the people, and admiring the beautiful early Fall scenery of New Hampshire. A couple more days, and the leaves would have been even more magnificent. But then again, so would the crowds of tourists, haha. Leave a Comment

Do be sure to visit the Glen View Cafe and Lodge. The lodge offers breakfasts and lunches, where you can enjoy spectacular views of Mount Washington and the Northern Presidential Range. There is a wonderful dining area, with various photos of 'olden days', an excellent gift shop (for your VT post cards!!), restrooms and various information areas. Oh, and they have an ATM inside also. In the photo (in the Lodge car park) Mary is chatting to the Pumpkin Family. I'm not sure if she was making them understand her, though :OI))) Leave a Comment

You'll find lots of these warning signs in New Hampshire. We only saw one Moose, and that was before we reached Mt. Washington. We were in a slow moving line of cars, at some roadworks, when the Moose just wandered out in between the cars, and trotted away into the woods! Be aware - they're pretty big if you hit one!
