 | Las Vegas Luxor Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 84 | | Hotels in Vegas are not only places to stay, but attractions. The Luxor Hotel is a giant Egyptian-style pyramid. Even I, a skeptic and self-proclaimed expert detector of cheesiness, had to admit that this place was pretty damn cool. To enter the hotel you walk through a giant Sphinx and are immediately greeted by fountains and ancient looking statues. Look up and you will see the inside of the pyramid and the neat elevators that travel on an angle to accomodate the hotel's structure. The sheer size of the building is awe inspiring. Inside the Luxor is a to-scale reproduction of King Tut's tomb. For a small fee you can take a self-guided tour of this with a tape recording that you conrol. All of the artifacts have been recreated here exactly as they were found in the real tomb. It was a lot of fun as well as educational! For families with kids the Luxor would also be a great place to go because they have an IMAX theatre as well as inexpensive and kid friendly food options such as Pizza Hut and Burger King. Hotel Luxor is really spectacular sight. Behind the sphinx in the picture, you will find the central part of the hotel, being a black glass pyramid, with a bright lightbeam shooting up into the sky from the top. On the inside of the pyramid you find the casino, completely shaped in Egyptian style, with enormous pillars, statues, etc. The walkways of the hotelrooms give you a spectacular sight into this central area. Located almost at the end of the strip, beside Mandalay Bay, the Luxor is shaped like a giant pyramid and is 30 stories high. The rooms are situated around the outside from top to bottom, with a gigantic open atrium inside. The theme, of course, is Egyptian and the interior is very impressive with lots of palm trees and Egyptian motifs and statues dramatically lit. There is almost a museum-like atmosphere here, and of all the grand "theme" hotels, we found this is one of the quieter ones on the strip. You probably won't spend much time here as there isn't a whole lot to see, but it is worthwhile. An Egyptian theme prevails at the Luxor. If you arrive by the free monorail from Mandalay Bay or the Excaliber, you will behold the giant Sphinx which guards the entrance to the shining black pyramid. But fear not, you can enter between the sphinx's legs to the casino and beyond. Inside you will find faithful reproductions of Egyptian hieroglyphs, Tutankhamaun's tomb and Cleopatra's Needle, alongside the slot machines and talking camels. King Tut's Museum is open 9am to 11pm daily, not free. Leave a Comment Phone: (800) 288-1000Directions: South end of the strip between Excalibur and Mandalay BayWebsite: http://www.luxor.com

It's bigger than the real thing - and the nose hasn't fallen off yet! This hotel and casino is an amazing piece of architecture. The black pyramid is a real landmark and at night the light on top shines out towards the stars (aparently the airport had to move one of its runways as the light was too bright - I don't know if someone was having me on, but it wouldn't surprise me!). The Luxor is a pretty neat building to check out. I stayed there in 1994 and found the room to be comfortable and spacious. During the holiday season, the interior was a mix of their standard Egyptian motif decorated with Christmas wreathes and such. Go ahead -- pamper yourself. You know you deserve it. Let me say I am not normally a "spa" person. I'm a tomboy; I don't wear makeup; brushing my hair is as fancy as I get with hairdos. However, having access to the ultimate in relaxation and stress-relief is right up my alley. The Oasis Spa was a relaxing experience like no other I've had. I signed up for a riverstone massage because I'd been wondering what this heated stone fuss was all about. Much to my surprise, my $140 got me access to all of the spa -- water, juice, and snacks; steam room; sauna; whirlpool; showers with variously fragranced products; and a "finish" area with free haircare products, blowdryers, etc. (And, after my 4pm massage, I could have returned to the spa anytime up until midnight.) The massage was incredible, especially after I'd spent the last two days wandering the desert and hiking up and down the Strip. Go on -- splurge! A word to the wise, which I wish I'd known. The spa, which is in two parts and completely segregated into male and female, is "clothing optional" in the sauna/steamroom/whirlpool area. When I went, all had "opted" to wear their swimsuits -- but mine was in my room. I didn't feel comfortable being the only naked person around, so I sweated it out (literally) in my little spa robe. Next time I'll bring my suit. (And this isn't just for women; my husband got a riverstone massage too and had the same reaction I did.)
