A trip to the Strip is not complete without seeing downtown and the Freemont Street experience. The downtown street is closed to traffic and has fun and cheap slots. Every 30 minutes (or hour - I forget), there is a light show accompanied by music, with a huge screen above you. It only lasts about 10 minutes but it's fun!

Don't miss the spectacular FREE show offered at every hour in the evening until 11pm. I simply marvelled at the optical effect of brilliantly coloured images created on the inside surface of the curved roof. It never failed to bring smiles to eveybody's faces. Go watch it! Leave a Comment Directions: It's about 15 minutes from Stratosphere Hotel at the end of the Strip.

Fremont Street lights up at night to provide a light show along the street set to music. If you're going to spend any time downtown, do it after dark to take in the show. Leave a Comment Directions: Downtown

Go see the Fremont Street Experience, a pedestrian street sheltered by an electric canopy on which a one of a kind sound and light show is performed. The light shows are presented every hour using 2 million lights and 540,000 watts of concert quality sound. On the street you'll also see the iconic Vegas Vic and Vegas Vickie neon signs. Additionally, there are a bunch of commercial outlets and kiosks where you can buy cheap souvenirs. Oh, and don't forget the hotels/casinos that line the street as well! Leave a Comment

Honestly, the casinos in old downtown are pretty, well, old. It's amazing to see the contrast versus the new casinos. I swear too that at the casino we visited that the roulette wheel was rigged! Nonetheless, one good thing about going here though was meeting a mermaid. Leave a Comment
