 | Las Vegas Fremont Street Experience Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 82 | | The Freemont Street Experience is a light and music show that goes on from 7:00 PM through midnight. Freemont has been closed to traffic and there are vendors with all types of souvenirs and gifts. The street has been covered with a network of lights and a computer runs various scenic shows while appropriate music is played. The best to place to watch this, is the balcony (2nd Floor) of the Fitzgerald’s with a tasteful cocktail. BUT GET THERE EARLY to get a seat on the balcony. (FREEBIE) Leave a Comment |
This is a computer generated light and sound show that takes place on a canapy stretching over 4 blocks of Freemont Sreet 90ft in the air. They recently did a complete overhaul and added even more lights and a better sound system. Shows are every hour from 8 pm until 12 midnight and vary each hour. It is a must see in my book! I LOVE downtown Las Vegas, it reminds me of gansters and hookers. Prices are cheaper than on the strip, and if you are into tacky little Vegas souveniers, this is the place! Especially the kiosks! If it is plastic, silk-screened or tasteless, you will find it here. Freemont Street is best experienced at night - the light show is spectacular! but beware, while looking at the lights, local theives are looking for your wallets... one of the casinos is famous for 'fried twinkies' - gross sounding, I know. But decadent and worth a try ... but not alone, the sugar load will put you into shock since the fried twinkie is covered with powdered sugar and chocolate chips ....... Leave a Comment |
The Fremont Street Experience is a 5-block open-air pedestrian mall, a landscaped strip of outdoor cafes, vendor carts, and colorful kiosks purveying food and merchandise. You hear a musical heartbeat and lookup as the metal canopy of lights above you explodes with sound and color. When those lights go on, all of the casino and shop lights turn dark. Every night there is a high-tech light-and-laser show (the canopy is equipped with more than 2.1 million lights) enhanced by a concert-hall-quality sound system. It comes toward you and goes past your head at incredible speed. The Fremont Street Experience includes "Odyssey: The Illuminating Journey," which travels from the rain forest to the urban jungle, "Dancing in the Street," a musical medley of songs by The Supremes, Smokey Robinson and Aretha Franklin, as well as tributes to Vegas legends, country music and classic rock. New to the lineup are "Area 51," in which earthlings go head-to-head with a fleet of aliens and "The Drop," a psychedelic adventure kicked off by a single drop of water. Amazing what electronics can do these days. More information: * Hours of operation: 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m., 10 p.m., 11 p.m. and midnight nightly. The whole of Fremont Street is now covered with a canopy that measures 1,400 feet and is 90 feet up. Nightly shows are approximately at 8.30pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm and midnight (check first to make sure). There are different shows and the one we saw was of 'earthlings going head to head with aliens'. There are lots of flashing colours and very loud music and noise, some people may not like this. However I thought it was brilliant and so cleverly done and well worth going to see, on top of all that it is free! What more can you want. Leave a Comment |
This is the older part of Las Vegas and as I said in previous tip where it all began. Then I assume that the main Strip started to develop and so Freemont Street sort of got left behind. But with the Viva Vision, sound and light display which is on every night people flock here to see it and its well worth it. The theme can be different at each showing. Leave a Comment |
Fremont Street is also has lots of shops, restaurants, cafes, hotels and yes casinos. People try to lure you into their casino giving you strings of free beads, I wonder why they think this would tempt you to enter! There are also street entertainers and musicians. Leave a Comment |
Whereas the casinos of yesteryear on the Strip are being demolished for future construction, the casinos downtown are embraced for their antiquated appeal. The majority of them line Fremont Street which has been heavily renovated to bring the almighty tourist dollar back downtown. Every hour in the evenings (check website for exact times), a digital display of color and sound splashes above the heads of strolling pedestrians on Fremont Street, and it's a sight not to miss! I was shocked when I overheard a local say that going to Freemont Street was a waste of time. It was one of the highlights of my trip! We stayed at the Vegas Club in downtown Vegas which is located right at the beginning of "The Freemont Street Experience". So what is Downtown/Freemont Street? It is the main street in downtown Las Vegas - not to be confused with the Las Vegas Strip. Downtown/Freemont Street is about a 5 or 10 minute car ride from the Strip. Downtown/Freemont Street is accessible by the CAT System (Citizens Area Transit) The Deuce a.k.a.city bus. It is NOT walking distance between the two. On weekends the hotels on The Strip charge an arm and a leg, so staying Downtown/Freemont Street on the weekend is a much more affordable alternative. Plus, if you're still looking for a great street-long party, but not the elbow-to-elbow standing room of the Strip on a weekend, then the Downtown/Freemont Street is the place to be. If you do decide to stay Downtown/Freemont Street you'll likely only need one night. Stay in one of the hotels under the Freemont Street Experience - not El Cortez or one of the other hotels further down. Too many scary creatures and no security really once you leave under the Viva Vision dome. DO stay at Fitzgeralds, Binions, 4Queens, Vegas Club, or the Plaza. If you're staying on the Strip and just want to visit Downtown/Freemont Street then I'd suggest getting on The Deuce (public bus transit) and getting a 24-hour-pass for $5. Go to Freemont Street after 7pm and expect to leave around midnight. The only transportation you'll need when you get to Freemont Street is your own two feet. I thought there was supposed to be a huge neon museum on Freemont Street - but what it is, is actually an outdoor complex called the Neonopolis, which has several neon signs attached to the inner structure.
