The displays change seasonally, but always involve elaborate sculptures such as the ones shown in the photo. Since you'll probably check out the Bellagio while in Vegas, take a walk towards the back and check out the display. Leave a Comment Address: Bellagio hotel

As far as we know the Flamingo is one of the few remaining "original" hotels on the strip. For this reason it is worth checking out, as well as that from 4 to 7 they have 2 for 1 drinks (Ok, this is the real reason we went there in the first place). While we were there we discovered their outdoor habitat of real, live flamingos, swans, ducks, fish, and turtles which was very nice if a bit smelly. They also have one of the coolest hotel logos in Vegas so we were sure to check out the gift shop where my husband bought a t-shirt that he still wears almost weekly. Leave a Comment Address: 3555 S. If you come all the way to Las Vegas you have to come to the Venetian. It's gorgeous for one thing, and for another it's the only hotel, or building for that matter, that has an indoor/outdoor canal. You can take a gondola ride in the canal (if you don't mind becoming the center of attention for 100's of people) or you can just watch other people taking thier rides. Either way, you get to enjoy the gondoleer singing love songs in Italian at the top of his/her lungs. The ceiling inside of the Venetian is painted to mimic the sky with clouds, etc. and every 15 minutes or so the "sky" turns from daytime to nightime just like that! It's cool to see. The Venetian has a sort of Medieval Renaissance theme to it and throughout the hotel you will find actors dressed in Renaissance garb performing various tricks faithfull to the time period. Though I have to say that the guys in the Venetian carnival masks were sort of creepy looking. The shopping here in their Grand Canal Shops is also great, even if no one can afford to buy anything. It's great to look. I fell in love with a handbag shaped like an eggplant and covered with jewels--don't ask. Also, the Venetian is the home of Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum as well as The Guggenheim Las Vegas, though we did not have a chance to visit either. Leave a Comment

On our trek down the Strip to the Stratosphere (it's not as close as it looks!) we had to stop in to Circus Circus to cool off and rest a bit. We decided to catch one of the free circus acts that are shown from 11am onward. Ours featured 4 acrobats swinging and tumbling above us while we watched awestruck from beneath their safety net. The performance lasted about 15 minutes and did I mention, it was free. Leave a Comment Address: 2880 S. The Freemont Street Experience is a light and music show that goes on from 7:00 PM through midnight. Freemont has been closed to traffic and there are vendors with all types of souvenirs and gifts. The street has been covered with a network of lights and a computer runs various scenic shows while appropriate music is played. The best to place to watch this, is the balcony (2nd Floor) of the Fitzgerald’s with a tasteful cocktail. BUT GET THERE EARLY to get a seat on the balcony. (FREEBIE) Leave a Comment Address: Downtown on Freemont Street

The Secret Garden of Seigfried and Roy sounds tacky in typical Las Vegas style, but it was probably one of the best things I have seen in Las Vegas. This attraction consists of three bottle-nosed dolphin pools, plus a collection of rare white and golden tigers. An asian elephant is also part of the group as well, and this is all set in beautiful, manicured shrubbery and flowers. The area is cleaner than any zoo that I've been in, and is actually a research station, affiliated with many major zoos around the world that the famous duo have contacted to set up breeding programs. What is so great about this is that you can actually get very close to the dolphins and sit on the edge of the pool, to watch them train and be exercised which you can't do at other dolphin exhibits. Often, they will do flips and turns on their own, or play, which is quite entertaining to sit back and watch. You also get to see what magnificent creatures the white tigers are, and do make sure you see the rare snow white tiger. Also, be careful, as they are cats -- one of them sprayed a crowd of people in front of his area, maybe getting a little revenge for himself. If not for the animals, go here to get a whiff of fresh air. Smoking is not allowed in the area, and we realized here how much cigarette smoke we had been exposed to in Vegas, after breathing in the clean, clean air of the Secret Garden. It's a wonderful oasis to escape the crowds and noise of Vegas. The entry fee is $12 per adult, and really is worth it. You can stay as long as you like. Leave a Comment Address: 3400 S. Yes, this does get old after you've seen it a few times, but the Bellagio fountain show is quite a sight to the first time tourist. Set to music, the fountain show takes place every 15 minutes or every half an hour, I can't remember which. Hundreds of fountains dance to the music, some soaring as high as 240 feet (73 meters). Actually, see it twice- once during the day and once when the fountains are lit up at night. Leave a Comment Address: Hotel Bellagio

Hotel Luxor is really spectacular sight. Behind the sphinx in the picture, you will find the central part of the hotel, being a black glass pyramid, with a bright lightbeam shooting up into the sky from the top. On the inside of the pyramid you find the casino, completely shaped in Egyptian style, with enormous pillars, statues, etc. The walkways of the hotelrooms give you a spectacular sight into this central area. If you come all the way to Las Vegas you owe it to yourself to also take the time to see the Hoover Dam, about a 30 min. drive away. I have an entire photo album dedicated to the Dam on my homepage. If you've seen it on tv, as most of us have, the real thing will really make an impression on you. It's sheer size alone is awe inspiring. From the Dam's top it is a mile down to the canyon. It is also an amazing feat of engineering. Our tour guide told us that the concrete in the Dam's center was still not yet fully dry because it is so thick! Though what impressed me even more than these things was the Dam's beauty. One of America's greatest landmarks, the entire structure is a gorgeous piece of art deco architecture, a virtual work of art. Mystere at Treasure Island is a circus unlike I have ever seen before. A mystical, primordial extravaganza celebrating the human condition. Overwhelming scenery, you never know where to look at any given time, because at any given time something extraordinary is occurring! Original music, costumes and talent beyond your wildest imagination saturates your senses and transport you for 2 hours to another universes where gravity is defied on a regular basis. My favorite is the "hand to hand" 2 brothers who stand atop a rotating dome, with a remarkable display of sheer strength and endurance go through gravity-defying body positions. Our seats were 2nd row center, I was so close I could see just 1 drop of sweat fall and the miniscule flicker of a bicep and no other signs of strain or effort were noted. Amazing!!! My other favorite was the red bird girl who tumbled using a row of trampolines. How can she possibly turn her back handsprings with such velocity?!! The clowns are hysterical and the audience is drawn into play as well. I so enjoyed this show that I would consider returning for another show. Cirque du Soliel has several shows in Las Vegas....Zumanity, O , Ka, and Mystere and the new show with George Martin of the Beatles fame who arranged this show about the Beatles called, "LOVE." All of the shows are well worth the price of admission. In September 2006 CatherineCG and I went to the Bellagio Hotel to see "O." This show is best viewed up in the balcony so you can see into the 1.5 million gallon tank of water that is part of the stage. High dives and trapeze acts leave you reeling with thoughts about the human body and its' capabilites! The staging of "O" must have been a huge undertaking! Leave a Comment
