 | Las Vegas Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 2395 | | What’s better than nursing a hangover poolside? The Beach is great – the only hassle is that you’ve really got to motivate and get down there early enough to claim lounge chairs. They fill up very quickly and are essential to your pool time enjoyment. While you’re there, make sure to check out the lazy river off in the corner. Even after multiple stays at Mandalay Bay, I had no idea it was there. It’s a nice change of scenery from poolside and makes for a great break from the desert heat. If you can’t spot it, don’t be afraid to ask one of the servers to direct you. Club Morrea. This is the “private” pool adjacent to the already epic beach/pool available to guests of the Mandalay Bay. The cost for entry is $25, and in my opinion, is worth every penny. It is a “topless optional” pool, and although I rarely mind seeing naked breasts in my line of vision, I would hardly say the topless aspect is its strongest feature. Sometimes it’s just nice to enjoy “Adult Swim” all day long. Your $25 goes toward a stylish and understated pool landscape. There are no children running around screaming for their parents and friends to come play with them. The area is much smaller, so it’s easier to either meet your fellow patrons, or catch a glimpse of whatever US Weekly regular who may have flown in from LA for the weekend. The fountains at the Bellagio may sound cheesy (so I thought) but, they are absolutely mesmerizing. In fact, we stood there for probably over an hour, just to watch the show over and over again. If you've never heard of the fountains, 1200 moving spouts of water are choreographed to music. The shows are every 15 minutes until about midnight, and last maybe 2-3 minutes depending on what song they are using. They are really quite something to see, but I suggest if you don't have much time, to go at night, as they are at their most beautiful, with colored lights. Probably the best view is, of course, in front of the Bellagio, but more to the sides, as you can get in the whole show without turning your head from side to side. Also, a tip: You can view them from your own private little balcony. Go up inside the enclosed escalators/staircase to the Bellagio shops, north of the fountains, and there is a little balcony overlooking the fountains out two double french doors. My husband and I stood there for quite some time without any hassle and had a wonderful view of the fountains. Leave a Comment Address: 3600 S. Hotels in Vegas are not only places to stay, but attractions. The Luxor Hotel is a giant Egyptian-style pyramid. Even I, a skeptic and self-proclaimed expert detector of cheesiness, had to admit that this place was pretty damn cool. To enter the hotel you walk through a giant Sphinx and are immediately greeted by fountains and ancient looking statues. Look up and you will see the inside of the pyramid and the neat elevators that travel on an angle to accomodate the hotel's structure. The sheer size of the building is awe inspiring. Inside the Luxor is a to-scale reproduction of King Tut's tomb. For a small fee you can take a self-guided tour of this with a tape recording that you conrol. All of the artifacts have been recreated here exactly as they were found in the real tomb. It was a lot of fun as well as educational! For families with kids the Luxor would also be a great place to go because they have an IMAX theatre as well as inexpensive and kid friendly food options such as Pizza Hut and Burger King. After a visit to the Las Vegas Visitor's Centre we were directed to the Stratosphere for a great deal on an evening's entertainment. For only $44, we rode 900 feet to the top of the tower (which alone is a $9 value), we enjoyed a sumptuous seafood buffet, AND we saw an excellent impersonators show with two free drinks! Considering almost all of the other shows in town start at $50 and up, and that's just for the show....we thought this was a great deal! We planned our visit to the Observation Deck to coincide with sunset. That way, we could see the city by day, and by night and possibly catch a great sunset in between. Apart from admiring the view, it was fun to watch the new thrill ride located on top of the Stratosphere. It is called X-SCream and it plunges its riders literally over the edge of the platform and dangles them 900 feet above the Strip. The impersonator's show was called American Superstars and featured the obligatory Elvis, along with Ricky Martin, Britanny Spears, Charlie Daniels and my favourite, Michael Jackson. He was a fabulous dancer and entertainer....and not as creepy as the real Michael! The couple sitting next to us had been to the show 3 times, they liked it so much! I recommend that you see it at least once while in Vegas. Leave a Comment

Despite the horrible accident in the Siegfried & Roy show, you can still see their beautiful white tigers at the Mirage. They are kept in a soundproofed glass front enclosure. I was concerned about such magnificent animals living in cages, but found out they are actually kept on a ranch, where they can roam freely outdoors. One or two are selected every few days to spend a short time on display at the Mirage. After those few days pass, it's someone else's turn. Not a bad gig, far better than a zoo! Although it's difficult to see such magnificent animals in captivity, for some it may be the main chance at survival that their species have going. Leave a Comment Address: 3400 S. Arrrrghh. This is probably the coolest free show I have ever seen. Performed 6 times a night, this show is so realistic that you feel instantly transported to the 19th Cen. Caribbean or onto a Hollywood film set. You can actually feel the heat from the cannon fire during the fierce battle between the pirates and the British Royal Navy. As an extra bonus, ladies, the pirates are all very easy on the eyes. Makes you happy that they win! Leave a Comment Address: 3300 S. The Venetian is another luxurious hotel along Las Vegas Boulevard. Here, you can admire wonderful old world European architecture as colourful gondoliers guide tourists along canals of unnaturally blue water. You can venture inside to the shopping arcade where the a/c will keep you cool but you will still feel like you're outdoors under the ceilings of painted clouds. Grab a seat in St. Marks square and wait for the next free performance of Italian Opera singers or living statues. It's a great place to relax and cool off when the temperature is soaring outside! Many people don't venture to the old downtown section of Las Vegas, I think it is worth the effort to get here. Here, you will see the stylish neon signs of old like Vegas Vic and Vickie. You can also catch an evening light show which is cast upward onto a huge steel canopy which covers the entire street. The shows are shown on the hour beginning at dusk and last about 7 minutes. I'll admit that I was hoping for a more psychedelic experience but instead saw cartoons of space aliens. Regardless, it was still very well done and did I mention, free. Fremont street is closed to vehicles so, it is very nice to stroll along the pedestrian mall, enjoying yard long margaritas and free entertainment. It is a great place to shop for cheap souveniers and post cards. It is also easy to visit several casinos in a very short time since they lack the bohemeth proportions of the new Strip Casinos. We stopped into the Golden Nugget to see "the nugget" for which the casino is named. It is the world's largest, weighing in at 61 lbs! It looks like a giant golden turd. Oh, the Paris. This was a cool place to be sure and the closest thing I've seen to an adult version of a Disney Theme Park. The casino has a funky 19th Century Moulin Rouge-type flair to it and all of the employees speak with hard-won French accents. Upon entering you are greeted by a friendly, "Bon jour, Madame." They also have a ride here that can take you to the top of their 50% scale Eiffel Tower. We didn't take it, but I imagine the view up there is great. We found the food here to be some of the best on the Strip. The buffet here is great, especially for breakfast when they have their pastries fresh from their own French bakery. One of our favorite restaurants is also in the Paris, Le Provencal, as well as my very favorite bar, the Napoleon Bar. (I love Napoleon, so you may think this is biased, but it is a beautiful room.) If nothing else, browse through the shops here. There are some cool things to see, even if no one can afford them! Leave a Comment Address: 3655 S. As far as we know the Flamingo is one of the few remaining "original" hotels on the strip. For this reason it is worth checking out, as well as that from 4 to 7 they have 2 for 1 drinks (Ok, this is the real reason we went there in the first place). While we were there we discovered their outdoor habitat of real, live flamingos, swans, ducks, fish, and turtles which was very nice if a bit smelly. They also have one of the coolest hotel logos in Vegas so we were sure to check out the gift shop where my husband bought a t-shirt that he still wears almost weekly. Leave a Comment Address: 3555 S.
