If you love being an armchair quarterback, then you will LOVE the many sportsbooks found in Las Vegas. Sportsbooks are basically large lounges that are full of comfy seats, large screen t.v.'s, and current scores for every sporting event you can imagine.

These are great places to kick back and have a few beers while avoiding the hot Las Vegas sunshine. Each casino has a sportsbook, and all of them are worth a visit...although the hard part is convincing yourself to leave! (Be aware that some of the older casinos do not boast great sportsbooks.) However, most of the larger, newer casinos have sportsbooks that will blow you away!

All sportsbooks have full bar service and most have a great selection of bar foods, like burgers and sandwiches. The live broadcasts of horseracing will draw you in quickly, and before you know it, you'll be putting money on the ponies!

If you are a true fan of sports, then make sure you don't leave Vegas without spending time in a sportsbook!

    Spectator Sports: Watching Premiership Football
One of the few places to show the UK Premiership games live in the Crown and Anchor pub.

It is about 45 mins walk from the strip.

They serve UK beers and full english breakfast.

My trip was to watch Man U v Bolton on New Years Eve. 12pm kick off in the UK so about 5am in Vegas.

I was up at 4. Walked to the pub. Had to pay $10 PPV fee. Drank Boddingtons beer and ate a full english but Bolton were terrible and lost 4-1.

    Good pub, *** match

    Spectator Sports: Boxing Capital
There is boxing taking place every week in places such as The Orleans Hotel.

But every now and then, places like MGM, Mandalay Bay, and Thomas and Mack have huge PPV fights.

I came to see Ruiz v Jones Jnr for the Heavyweight Title at Thomas and Mack.

Was great, and if you get the chance, I say it is a must see.

TOP TIP: We asked at the ticket office about the weigh in. We got to go into the suite at Ceasers the day before the fight. We met Lennox Lewis, Don King, Duke McKenzie etc.

TOP TIP 2: After the fight ends, make your way to the ring against the flow of the crowd. there was no security. We got to meet the ref, and Don king (again)

Vegas hosts many of the top boxing matches. There's always a large crowd in town when one of these events is going on.

Spectator Sports: NASCAR weekend in Vegas!
NASCAR weekend, held every year on the first weekend of March, is a BIG DEAL in Las Vegas! If you've never been to a race, and you live in the western US, this is really the best place to see a NASCAR race., short of travelling to the deep south.

Tickets are pricey - around $90 or so if you're just hitting the Sunday Nextel Cup race. If you want good seats, you'll have to spring for the package deal - which includes Saturday's Busch Series race and Friday qualifying. But really, there are no truly bad seats at LVMS.

Like I said, NASCAR weekend is a big deal, and accomodations in Vegas are priced accordingly. You will NOT find $29 rooms! Expect to pay $75 minimum for downtown hotels, and much much more on the strip. Most of the fun takes place downtown anyway, so that's where I'd stay. Make reservations as far in advance as possible! I reserved a room at the Golden Gate in November and many of the downtown hotels were already booked!

A NASCAR race must be seen live to be appreciated. TV does not prepare you for how fast and loud these hotrods are!!! For a different kind of sporting excitement, NASCAR is the ticket!

Unlike other auto races, coolers are not allowed at LVMS. You should bring one anyway, so you'll have nice, cold drinks in the car waiting for you after a long, hot day baking in the sun. Seat cushions are a good idea. Bring plenty of sunscreen and a hat. And lots of $ for souveniers, particularly if you're favorite driver's name isn't Earnhart or Gordon - you'll find a better selection than any website can offer!

Another good thing to bring is one of those headphone radios - they provide a combination of ear protection and commentary, so you can follow things the announcers are talking about which you can't see. This is especially useful if you're new to NASCAR.

We attended the NASCAR race in March, 2008 with Raceaway Hospitality. They hook you up with transportation to and from the track (across Nellis AFB!), food, adult beverages and GREAT seats.

    Camera, sunscreen, race scanner, cerveza.
