 | South Lake Tahoe Summer Sports Reviews | 1 - 8 of 8 | | During the summer, you must go hiking/biking/mountain biking. There are miles & miles of bike paths and trails to enjoy, either along the shoreline/roads, or up into the surrounding mountains. Go hike/bike around Fallen Leaf Lake (part of The Bodyguard with Whitney Houston was filmed there), or hike above Emerald Bay. A full-day strenuous hike is to go to the top of Mt. Tallac, or plan a day or two out into Desolation Wilderness. Or go for a more casual hike/mt. bike trip to Marlette Lake on the east shore. Remember the high elevation will put more strain on your body than normal, so take that into consideration when contemplating a tough hike/ride. Bicycles are easy to rent for the day, there are quite a few places in South Lake Tahoe which offer this service. (This photo's from above Emerald Bay) Leave a Comment

My favorite summer activity is to rent a kayak and paddle along the shore and beaches of Lake Tahoe. I usually rent a single sit-on-top kayak from Kayak Tahoe (530) 544-2011 at the Timber Cove Lodge. Many hotels, like Camp Richardson and the Fireside Lodge offer kayak rentals to guests also. It's just a great experience to float along in your personal boat, soaking up the sun and fresh air, paddle through occasional swells (Tahoe always gets windy in the afternoons) and be out on the amazingly gorgeous water. I recommend water sandals, nylon shorts, a bathing suit, nyon top, sunglasses, hat with brim, sunscreen, water and snacks. There may be a watertight storage port in your boat, or you can stash your bag at the kayak rental shop or in your car. The lakeshore are all no-wake zones for motorboats and jetskis, and it is strictly enforced, so you don't need to worry too much about getting run over/capsized. July, August, September are the best times of year for kayaking on the lake. Leave a Comment

The point of San Harbor. A beautiful view of a cluster of rocks, the lake and North Lake Tahoe. This type of rock formation is very common all over Lake Tahoe but are especially prevelant here at Sand Harbor. They make for great climbing and exploring and some people even jump off of them into the water near the north side of the beach. Leave a Comment

This summer my family and I rented Kayaks from Sierra Sport Rentals 775-588-0970 and they delivered the kayaks to the beach 3 minutes down the road, and provided us an ice chest for our day of kayaking on the lake. We began from Nevada Beach (since they have no marina for boat traffic) and we went up to a wonderful seculded beach. The nevada coast line is ther best to begin for kayaking because there are less boats, so beware of marinas with jet skiis and boats when renting. Anyhoo, we had a fabulous time and the rentals were the best. The shop is only a few minutes from the heavenly gondola and the casinos. Ride the Flume Trail ! It has an awesome view of Lake Tahoe !! You can rent bikes at the trailhead (Spooner) for about $45 - I think you can rent helmets too ! Then you can ride one way, then take the shuttle back to where you parked your car. Checkout the website for more information (below) Leave a Comment
