 | North America Local Customs | Tips 1 - 10 of 77 | | Popular Local Customs | Other Local Customs Tips | All Tips (77) I think this one is absolutely crazy! The man is actually wearing real clothes! How crazy can a mailbox get! It sure made me smile when I took this picture. You really do have click on the picture to get a better look at this photo, hahaha, this mailbox is just great! I've added a few more funny mailbox pics for you, like a flowery mailbox, of course a cow mailbox as they seem a very popular design, a horse and wagon mailbox and finally you can see Uncle Sam who also happily helps you to collect your mail on a daily basis :-) And if you are not tired of seeing all these mailboxes you can drop by on the travelogues, where I added a few more of those fore you. The USA is known as a melting pot of cultures and races, but it's not just in the States. Canada is also a culturally diverse country. Toronto, in fact, is among the most diverse cities in the world. Leave a Comment

Aussies - fanny means something else in America, they aren't being rude ok. Speak clearly - Americans sometimes have trouble with our accent - remember WE hear theirs on TV all the time. Americans think our accent is a put on. IT ISN'T!! Be polite to the police, they carry very big guns and are just doing their jobs. Ask for help - Americans generally are very happy to give directions etc. I've found them , at home, to be a generous and friendly people. Be prepared for a food selection and combination/variety which will blow your mind. They have enormous helpings - your eyes will be bigger than your stomach. America is the place for cheap good quality clothing. Places like Gap are eerily cheap to me, while the quality is excellent. Assume you have to tip if you are not sure. It is better to be told ' no, thats ok sir/madam' than to not tip an suffer especially in a Restuarant if you intend eating there more than once. Aussies, Coke in LA tastes like our Pepsi and vice versa ( at least I found that ) don't try to convert them to the wonders of vegemite - it scares them. Coors is not a bad substitute for Crown Lager but if in doubt try Labatt ( Canadian ) or take some with you. lite beer in USA is LOW fat not LOW alcohol ( and yes there is a story behind that *hick * ) Leave a Comment

Perhaps the Most 'common mistakes made by travelers' visiting Canada and the US is the assumption that the people and the general values are the 'same' on this continent, Having travelled quite extensively, I want to point out that I found a significant difference/change aproximately every 100km.! Much more on this as we go. Infact, this topic is posing me with a Crusade that I will likely accept. If I do take it upon myself to 'make waves' or become Loud about this perspective, I will formulate my thoughts on this page prior to sending the articles to respective media, etc. Leave a Comment

In The Netherlands we only have boring mailboxes; just plain green. But when you travel through America and Canada you can see lots of different mailboxes. They always make me laugh a lot, and during my trips I made some pictures of them. I think even the standard mailbox are nice. But you can find lots of different ones : normal ones, totally rusty and dented or mailboxes with special shapes. You can see cows, cars, bikes, chicken, etc. Actually everything you can think of can be found on those mailboxes, it can't be crazy enough! I hope you will enjoy these mailboxes and even smile once in a while when looking at these funny ones I spotted on my travels. Leave a Comment

Memory You have to begin to lose your memory, if only in bits and pieces, to realize that memory is what makes our lives. Life without memory is no life at all, just as an intelligence without the possibility of expression is not really an intelligence. Our memory is our coherence, our reason, our feeling, even our action. Without it, we are nothing. Luis Buñuel (1900-1983), Spanish filmmaker. My Last Sigh, ch. 1 (1983) Leave a Comment

ping...ping...ping.......... ...........ECHOES...the Floyd......... Overhead the albatross Hangs motionless upon the air And deep beneath the rolling waves In labyrinths of coral caves An echo of a distant time Comes willowing across the sand And everything is green and submarine. And no one called us to the land And no one knows the where's or why's. Something stirs and something tries Starts to climb toward the light. Strangers passing in the street By chance two separate glances meet And I am you and what I see is me. And do I take you by the hand And lead you through the land And help me understand The best I can. And no one called us to the land And no one crosses there alive. No one speaks and no one tries No one flies around the sun.... Almost everyday you fall Upon my waking eyes, Inviting and inciting me To rise. And through the window in the wall Come streaming in on sunlight wings A million bright ambassadors of morning. And no one sings me lulabyes And no one makes me close my eyes So I throw the windows wide And call to you across the sky.... Leave a Comment
