 | London Buckingham Palace Reviews | 61 - 70 of 376 | | Even if you don't see the changing of the guards or whatever...save this activity til last because this is a really cool place to relax. Just sitting in front of the palace gates and people watching is a really great way to live in the moment and take in the fact that you've been lucky enough to travel and see this beautiful city. There is also a park where you can lay out and take a nap! Leave a Comment Directions: Green Park tube

So, after the stroll at the St James' Park, you pay the Queen a visit. Do check that British Soldier's are really frozen motionless. However, if you wanna catch the change of the guard, be there a bit before 11:30. Leave a Comment

Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of Britain's sovereigns since 1837. When the flag is flying the Queen is in residence so you always know when Her Majesty is in town. Although in use for the many official events and receptions, there are some areas of Buckingham Palace that are opened to visitors on a regular basis. Victoria Memorial The Victoria Memorial is a memorial to Queen Victoria, the longest reigning monarch in British history. The Memorial stands in the centre of the Queen’s Gardens in front of Buckingham Palace. From the steps of the Fountain, a wonderful view along the Mall can be viewed all the way to Admiralty Arch. The Fountain is a listed building. It was built during the 'Rule Brittania' years thus sports a nautical theme. It is constructed from marble and is 82 ft high. You will notice a statue of Queen Victoria seated on a throne facing down the mall. 3 Angels of white marble represent traditional Victoriam values of Justice, Truth and Charity. At the base spot the 4 boats representing Britains rule over the Oceans. Ont he top is a bronzed winged 'Victory' The Palace is surrounded by Green Park and St James Park, beautiful parks to walk in and spot the Pelicans in St James park. The nick name for the memorial is “The Wedding Cake” as it represents the decoration on the top of one. In fact, if you get into a black cap and ask to be taken to ‘The Wedding Cake’ many drivers will automatically take you here to the Victoria Memorial. Leave a Comment Directions: Green Park tube

This is one of the top three things to see in London (with the British Museum & Tower of London). The palace is easy to get to requiring only a smallish walk through from a nearby tube station. From the Green park station it's a nice walk through Green Park to the from of the palace and also the ticket booth why you can buy tickets for palace tours. The Palace was built in 1703 and is home to the British Royal family plus it's the administrative headquarters of the monarchy. If you take one of the tours you will get to see some of the State rooms only plus a collection of paintings including flemish and dutch masters Rubens & Rembrandt. The palace was built in 1703, for the Duke of Buckingham. Queen Victoria declared that this castle should be the Royal residence. After the fire at Windsor castle the Queen has opened up parts of Buckingham palace to the public (in summer) in order to raise funds. As you may notice the flag in my pic is at half mast, this was in the week following th death of Princess Diana. Under normal circumstances when you see the flag flying you know that the Queen is home so look out for twitching curtains! Leave a Comment

We woke up early to have a chance to see famous changing guards in buckingham palace, but we didn't believe what we saw. It was Queen Elizabeth II and George Bush checking guard of honors. Wow, we were excited. Of course, it's not up close, it was about 100 metres away. We were also interviewed by BBC newsreporter! Security was all over. Heard that they spent 5 million pound for this visit. All from taxpayers of Londonites. Leave a Comment Directions: Green Park tube

Many children brought up on Winnie the Pooh books, will know of Christopher Robin and the poem "They are Changing Guard at Buckingham Palace". The Grenadier Guards in their red jackets and black bearskins are a very popular sight. Leave a Comment Directions: Green Park tube

Buckingham Palace the official London residence of the Queen and you can visit the magnificent State Rooms. Open daily in summer. If you don't have time to visit the palace just try to come and see the changing of the guards. It's so beautiful and worth the effort to come and see it. I had a wonderful time to see this and even though it was cloudy day with some rain we did see it. Guard Mounting takes place in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace at 11.30 am, and lasts about 45 minutes. There is no Guard Mounting in very wet weather. During the autumn and winter, Guard Mounting takes place on alternate dates, but it is held daily during spring and summer. Leave a Comment

Of the three visits to London, this is the first time I've seen the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. Not only is the palace spectacular, but so is the crowd (get there early for a decent view, before 10:30). The parade and antics are worth the wait.
