 | Madrid Puerta del Sol Reviews | 61 - 70 of 78 | | The Puerta del Sol marks both the epicenter of the city and the epicenter of Spain. It is from this point in Spain that all distances are measured and all of the six major highways originate. There is a plaque marking the spot. Don't blink because you might miss it. Leave a Comment

They say this is the exact center of Spain, although it's not entirely true. (They actually have a plaque on the ground that reads "kilómetro 0." This is the true heart of the city though, with many places to eat, shop, and go out. It is very commercial and touristy, but it is just as popular for locals. It is amazing to think that so much history took place here as well...for instance, the battle portayed in Goya´s "Dos de Mayo." Leave a Comment Directions: Metro: Sol

This is considered to be kilometer 0. This square is where the distances in Spain are measured from. It is one of several busy hubs in Madrid. You will find architecture, fountain, people, and a lot of places to visit in the immediate vicinity. It seems to be a busy place in both the day and night. Leave a Comment

This is the soul of Madrid. You will probably end up here many times. This is Spain's Kilometre Zero, where all distances in Spain are measure from. There are various statues, and beautiful buildings worth seeing here. The square also has a clocktower that was built in 1867. Leave a Comment Directions: Get of Sol subway station

This is where many important streets meet, including one to a pedestrian mall - you'll understand why it is a very crowded place ! This is where they chose to put up a giant screen to air a match of the World Cup when we were there - that oughta give you an idea of how many people can fit in there! We saw a live report about it on TV that same night and were amazed by the number of people watching! The Tío Pepe sign is very visible so don't worry about missing it! You'll find many shops, streets artists and restaurants.

This neon showing sherry Tio Pepe is a part of Puerta el Sol... it's always there.

This square is at the center of the city. There are some nice buildings surround the square, as well as lots of tourist shops. It’s a good place to start your tour of the city. Watch your belongings since it’s really crowded. There is a metro stop (“Sol”) on the square. Leave a Comment
