 | Madrid Local Gastronomy Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 20 | | If not plainly inexpensive, Bazaar is certainly a very economic place to have dinner in Madrid. For less that 20 Euros you can choose between a great selection of fashion starters, meats, fish, exceptional deserts and a decent wine. Trust me, you are not likely to find many places like this in Madrid. Besides that, the place has an excellent decoration, young and friendly stuff and it's placed in one of the most fashion neighborhoods of Madrid. They don’t accept reservations, so you’ll have to show up there (the best idea is to go at the opening time: 8:30 pm) and appoint to the waiting list.

This classical madrilian bar is typical for its SIDRA (cider) and POLLOS (roasted chicken). On sunday mornings is totally full. You can also have chorizo, empanadas... They have some tables outside in a terrace, but the interior, all in dark old wood, deserves a visit. They have "take away" service too. Leave a Comment

Cocido is the most typical dish from Madrid. You can have it in many restaurants, but there are classical cocido restaurants if you are interested. It consists of chick peas, cabbage, chorizo, blood sausage or pudding and vegetables, stewed in broth. You must have that in 2 plates: - First U take a soup with some pasta on it. - Then U take the main plate (see photo). And you must order always both, they don't serve it separate. It's enough for a meal... too much maybe!! Leave a Comment

Very typically "madrileño". You eat either standing at the bar, with a caña (glass of beer) in one hand a a fork in another, or, if you're tired after hours of visitting the Prado seated at a table. The waiters are friendly though very busy. They will always help you if you ask for advice on what to have.
Don't miss their "habitas con jamon", the best in town. Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Corner between c/ Fucar Jesus & c/ Lope de VegaDirections: Not far from the Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen Bornemisza museums.

You should not leave Spain without trying Jamon. Actually, chances are that after tasting Spain's most delicious culinary invention, you will not leave the country without a good provision of it in your suitcase. ;-) Surprisingly, a pretty decent place for Jamon tasting could be find in Sol area, surrounded by horrible tourist traps that serves Paella with sangria for dinner :-p Taberna Alhambra has a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and an excellent (though not very diverse) selection of Spanish products.
Ok, this is what you have to say: "Jamon Iberico, por favor". Got it? Good! Now, repeat that phrase to your waiter as many times as you feel like :-p Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Calle Victoria,9Phone: 91 521 07 08Directions: Metro Sol

It's a small cave close to Plaza Mayor where you can taste tipical tortilla and chorizo frito and drink a light sangria! The atmosphere is familiar, simple and funny and you can even enjoy the music of a squeeze-box player close to your table. Relaxing, cheap and tasty!
The best tortilla i have eaten in Madrid! Have it with some chorizo frito! :) Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Calle CuchillerosDirections: Right down Plaza Mayor

As I later figured out it's quite an extensive chain of restaurants in Madrid with a few offices in other Spanish towns. We went to the one located on calle Mayor. Great restaurant. The eclectic interior is a combination of high tech and rural, simple but nice. Good food and selection of vines.
We took Tabla Mixta, the name stands for itself. It's a huge portion served on a long wooden stand, which cosists of mixter of grocery, meat and seafood. It was nice experience. As well one can find there a big selection of meat and fish dishes. Leave a Comment

Cocido is Madrid most traditional dish. This chickpea based stew does not have the international reputation that other Spanish dishes have (like paella, for instance), thought if I were in your place, I would not leave the city without giving it a try. :-) La Daniela makes an excellent place for cocido degustation, because of its reasonable prices, friendly staff and, off course, delicious main and only dish (you can guess what this plate exactly is, can’t you?) ;-)

Madrid has traditionally been a haven to the best of Spanish food, with restaurants offering the cuisines of all the country's very different regions. Madrid's own traditional specialities are humble food, with plenty of beans and lentils, and much use of offal. Worth looking out for – despite the distance from the sea – are fish and shellfish, which are outstandingly good here! Even so, one thing to understand about food in Madrid is that the important thing – as with much socialising here – is to go out. Spain is, after all, a country that gives tapas (snacks) a near-equal status with dining, and as places to eat restaurants as such are only part of a varied whole. Take notice, that in Spain restaurants open late (around 21.00) and serve till after midnight. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
