    Useful words and phrases.............
  • Tip Rating:
  • My spanish isn't great but here are some common words and phrases which are fairly easy and i found useful.....

    Hola (pronounced 'ola') - Hello
    Adios ('adios') - Goodbye
    Gracias ('grathias') - Thankyou
Por Favor ('pour Fav or') - Please
    Si ('Si') - Yes
    No ('no') - No

If approached by beggers, 'lookie lookie' men (selling jewelery etc) or rose sellers etc these were my common responses which seemed to do the trick...

No dinero ('no den ear ro') - no money
No tengo dinero ('no ten-go den-ear-ro) - have no money
    No quero ('no key-air-ro') - don't want!
No Gracias ('no grathias') - no thanks

    If you get lost.............

Donde estas...name of hotel/bar etc ('don-day estas...') - where is.....?
No ablo espanol ('no ablo es-pan-yol') - Don't speak spanish
Ablo inglais? ('ablo in-glais-e') - Speak english?

I apologise for any bad grammar and spelling but you get the idea!

    Christmas Nativity Part 2
  • Tip Rating:
  • What did surprise me about this Nativity and the fsct that this is quite normal in the Spanish tradition was the detail that went into the carving.

    Sand Sculptures
  • Tip Rating:
  • Every Christmas in Benidorm the artists come out to the beach and make sand sculptures of the Christmas Nativity. As we arrived after Christmas we missed the main event that usually fills the whole beach but we did get to see one.

    Christmas Nativity
  • Tip Rating:
  • I remeber on a trip to Bavaria seeing hand carved figures for the nativity in varying sizes, but I was doing some shopping and came across this Nativity scene which apparently is quite the tradition here.

    Churros
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is a real Spanish classic. Churros are fried strips of dough. They are served hot with powdered sugar. The best way to eat is to dip them in chocolate. So ask for Churros con chocolate.
