 | Budapest Sports Travel | Tips 1 - 10 of 44 | | Popular Sports Travel | Other Sports Travel Tips | All Tips (44) Budapest might not be the ideal city for bikers, but it certenly is worth to use one to see a lot more of the city. Especially in summer, bikes can prove very useful. The transportation is very good, but with that you miss a lot of details. And since Budapest is a big city, walking is a good choice but not for all the destinations...:) There are bikeroads in Budapest, but not everywhere...but you have to be really carful even on this sort of roads, because car drivers often "forget to think" about bikers... Lots of nightspots are easily accesble with bikes as well, so this might also be a good choice for party people :) And if you are here and need a bike-partner, just drop me a note! :)

Formula one, the "Racing circus" comes to Hungary every year in August. The racetrack was built in 1986, and on the 10th of August that year the 1st ever Formula One race in a (now post-) communist country was held, which means that next year we are going to host the 20th F1 race! The racetrack is in Mogyoród, a little city near Budapest, it will take you only about half an hour to get there if you are lucky. But after the race it usually takes more time to get back to the center... There is usually a free bus service from Budapest for all having their tickets to the race, and the F1 has every year a contracted taxi company with a flat price from all points of Budapest to the racetrack's entarnce.
Sunglasses, water and that's about it! :) Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Mogyoród, off the M3 motorwayPhone: +36 28 444 444Directions: The track can be reached via the M3 motorway with car, free bus or taxi (see above). There are lots of signs showing it, so you won't miss it.Website: http://www.hungaroring.hu/hungaroring_en

The building of the Iceskating rink in the City Hall is worth a visit itself, even if you don't want to skate. The first real building was built in 1875 according to the plans of Odon Lechner, and since 1887 the iceskating part has artificial cooling so it can work even during not so cold days as well. The building which can be seen now was built in 1893 (the old one was just not big enough...) The rink is open from 9 am to 1 pm and then from 4 pm until 8 pm every day (exceptions: on saturdays they close at 6 pm but sometimes they are open from 7 pm to 10 pm, on Sundays the morning shift is from 10 am to 4 pm).
Skates are there for rent as well (500 HUF/hour), so you don't even have to take these with you! On my 2004 trip my friends and me visited the famous Gellert Themal Bath for some relaxation. As an extra we allowed us a 15 min massage. The interieur of the Art Nouveau building creates a historic nice atmosphere, but the staff is kind of grumpy. The bath consists of several indoor and outdoor pools, rooms for massage, a steam sauna and some other rooms. The pools have various temperatures up to 38 C. The admission is relatively expensive. Depending on your needs, prices vary between 2200 and 2700 HUF, but when staying less than 4 hours you get a refund. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: The Gellert Thermal Bath is located on the right side of the Danube, just at the foot of Gellert Hill near the Freedom Bridge (Szabdsag hid).

Budapest is great for running! The Margaret Island (an island on the Danube between the Margaret and the Arpad Bridges) is one of the most popular running scenes (with a partly soft surface covered running road of around 4,5 km or 3 miles). Besides that Budapest hosts lots of running events, running days, Maratons, etc. Ask for current events, there is one like every week in the season! You might be able to find some info on the Budapest Portal as well.
shorts, t-shirt, shoes...that will do :) Leave a Comment

You can have a mornign jog in these parks and sidewalks: Margaret Island Citypark Duna Korzo (Pest side) Margaret Island is the best among of these because there is a running-rubber rug applicated on the Island, especially for runners and joggers.
In the winter cold it is important to keep your limbs warm: wear gloves and hat. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Margaret IslandDirections: tram #4, #6, at Margit sziget station

Between two big cities, Buda and Pest, there flows a river, called the Donau. And this river holds a little island. Everyone can visit that island by taking the bridge from either Buda or Pest. There are almost no building whatsoever, only trees and plants and slippy roads you can walk on. Many Hungarians play soccer on that island, or freesby, or they bike in these nice decorated for-two-or-more-people bicicles. On top of this all, you can also practise you're kisstechniques with your love. Really! Almost everywhere you look, people are kissing or hugging, even when the whether is still quite cold! So, the first thing you do when you visit Budapest is...? Go to Love Island. Leave a Comment Theme: Biking

Hungaries richest but not too well supported team , thanks to a Jewish background. They attempt to play football on Saturdays kick offs at 4 p.m. Cost about 1000 forints and there's a bar at the very top corner of the main stand. Freindly crowd by Hungarian football standards.
Its always freezing there so bring a hat. Leave a Comment Theme: Sports WatchingAddress: Hungaria Utca - District VIIIDirections: Just over the railway line from the Chinese Market
