Moulin Rouge is probably the most famous cabaret in the world. It made Cancan big in 1961 and it's still a "hot spot" ever since!

The current show, called Féeire consist of 100 artists, 60 of them being the georgeous Doriss Girls from all around the world.

Shows are relatively expensive (87-97 EUR), if you also want to have dinner, the price goes up to 140-170 EUR.

You have to reserve your place in advance by phone or on the net.

As they posted it on the page: Formal attire. Jacket and tie will be appreciated. No shorts.

Moulin Rouge: Not A Must-See but Good

  • It was my aunt's idea to see the Moulin Rouge show; it was either that or dinner at Altitude 95. Since she likes cabarets then she figured this one would be great.

We booked the dinner/show package-the Toulouse Lautrec menu to be exact. And it's not cheap. It costs 150 euro/person.

We took a tour package that includes the transportation and pickup at our hotel. As you're dropped off on the sidewalk you'll notice what seems like hundreds of other tourists like yourself lined up to enter the theater on Blvd. de Clichy. And don't be surprised to see alot of sights while waiting :)
    This is Pigalle after all.

After you're let into the theater's foyer you will be demanded to take off your coat-yes, so that you can check it for a fee. They don't allow coats in the theater. Maybe it's a hazard if people trip on coats hanging from chairs?? Oh, by the way there's also a vendor selling the programmes for like 7 euro or so (can't really recall).

It's a huge theater with the dinner patrons sitting on the main floor and the drinks only patrons sitting far up. Dinner was not so great; it was a chicken dish that was a bit dry. Dessert was okay. On the whole, as others have noted, the food is not that great. But being a package it came with a 1/2 bottle of champagne per person. My aunt could not drink more than two glasses so I got the honors of drinking as much champagne in one sitting than I've ever done before.

The show itself is a variety show and unbelievably good. The performers are very talented, the dancers-both the women and men-are talented as well and, of course, in pretty good shape!

There is one act where a huge aquarium slides out from under the stage and a girl dives in and does her dance number-with a few albino snakes. Uh, I have a phobia of snakes so sitting upclose to the aquarium gave me the creeps.

One amusing thing: loved checking all the young & old guys with their eyes popping out when the girls were onstage!!

In summary, I recommend the show itself but not the dinner.

    Semi-formal to formal dress required

  • Night life In Paris
When planning an evening out in Paris, it is more important to decide where to go than what to do. The Champs-Elys?es and Trocad?ro areas are full of tourists and overpriced nightspots, but if wishing to impress, may be worth considering.
Pigalle is the seedy sex centre of Paris but home to some good music venues and the Moulin Rouge cabaret, where the cancan is still performed. Montmartre is heaving in summer but the views over Paris from Sacr?-Coeur are unbeatable.
Bastille is buzzing with bars and clubs but is a bit too hectic for some. The best area for an evening's caf?-hopping is the Marais district, (also the centre of the gay scene), closely followed by the increasingly fashionable Oberkampf, which suits a younger crowd.

    Discotheque and Night Club
Paris's nightclubs tend to be both expensive and exclusive - if you know someone who knows the ropes, you'll have an easier time getting through the door. Many venues host a specific soir?e on a given night of the week, so the party-hearty crowd is no longer faithful to just one club, for information about dates, look out for flyers in bars.
Techno, house, garage and latino are the popular sounds. Bouncers frequently turn potential punters away and many of the smarter clubs are (or claim to be) private. There is no sure way of gaining admission, although being foreign, dressed identically to everyone inside, accompanied by a regular or simply beautiful helps. Admission prices (usually about the Euros 15) often include one free drink. Clubs open at about 2300 and tend not to close until dawn; it is coolest to arrive around 0300, or at least after midnight

Known the world over for their famous "Can-Can" girls, this place is a must if you want to just feel a bit of old Paris.

I visited Moulin Rouge on my first visit to Paris, and although quite expensive, the show was pretty good.

After visiting Paris as many times as I have, I would say, skip this place. There are plenty of other places you can spend your money on.

    Moulin Rouge: No French Cancan
  • Tip Rating:
  • Very famous through out the world. Topic of several films.

A Parisian does not go to Moulin Rouge, which is focused on tourists, excepted if he goes with a guest or if he is invited. I was invited by my boss, so I was unable to escape.

The spectacle is mainly dance and song on the traditional Paris for tourists with beautiful topless girls. Only one original act : a ventriloquist who makes speaking French the Japanese tourists who come on the stage.

No French Cancan : the only thing which would be interesting there.

    Rather expensive (125 €, 140 €, 155 € with dinner, 79 & 89 € without dinner)

2 shows : one at 7:30Pm, the second at 11:00PM.

The dinner is poor with a quick service.

    Casual

Moulin Rouge: Still not sure a tourist trap or nightlife tip
  • Tip Rating:

  • Well, when I was doing some research, all the vt´s agreed to put it into tourist traps, so we did not enter, but we passed by, during our night visit to Montmartre .....

I guess I would not pay 100 Euros for the show .... each person....

    Moulin Rouge: Don't dress up
  • Tip Rating:
  • Immortalized by Toulouse-Lautrec, and the birthplace of the can-can, the Moulin Rouge (The Red Windmill) takes its name from one of the windmills of Montmartre present in another era. Situated in the red-light district of Pigalle it is famous for the large red imitation windmill on its roof. For 110 years, the most legendary cabaret in the world has provided its famous show. Dinner dance at 20h, shows at 22h and Midnight daily.

On our first trip to Paris we decided to attend the dinner show. My wife was sure that EVERYONE dressed up so there we went, me in a suit and the wife in a long black gown; long black gloves; pearl necklace and a mink coat. Out of the metro and past the sex shops barkers we walked and entered the building. For a second I thought we were at Denny’s the way people were dressed. The look on my wife’s face was priceless as she looked at all the slobs. Off went the fur, the gloves and the necklace as she muttered something in Russian that thankfully no one understood. The show was ok, but I can honestly say that the show in Las Vegas is superior.

Moulin Rouge: Can you Can Can??
  • Tip Rating:
  • I can only comment on the actual spot and location of the Moulin Rouge, as it was too expensive for me to actually attend. Tix start at 70Eur and that is to stand at the bar,
Of course it is free to take photos out the front of the Moulin Rouge of the Windmill, which alot of people including myself tend to do.

Im not sure of the dress code, but I dont think it is necessary to really dress up too much.

Moulin Rouge: Go with the flow
  • Tip Rating:
  • We did not go in, but we had to go and have a look at the area as we had heard so much about it, and it was all true lol. You cannot be prudish when visiting Pigalle area, go with an open mind, and enjoy the atmosphere.
