Phuket
  • Tip Rating:
  • Phuket is the green water of the Andaman sea just 70 minutes flying time south of Bangkok, Thailand?s most popular beach destination has everything you could possible want on a holiday: beautiful beaches, some of the finest resort hotels, water sports, exquisite seafood, international and Thai cuisine, mountains, forests, temples, coral reefs, turquoise seas and tropical sunshine all in plentiful proportions. Whether you are looking for a quiet corner to enjoy a romantic retreat or an action packed time with plenty of colorful nightlife, Phuket has ii all.
The climate of Phuket is tropical and therefore warm throughout the whole year. At the same time it is dominated by the monsoon winds that bring about seasonal changes from dry to wet. The monsoon winds change prevailing direction according to the season. This was an important aspect of navigation for the sailing ships in the middle ages. There are two very hot periods of weather on Phuket, the first between April and May when the average temperatures range from 30 to 36 degrees Celsius and only the occasional tropical thunderstorm brings relief from the heat. It is also very hot between September and October the frequent rainfall has a wonderful cooling effect. The southwest monsoon, from March to September, occurs when the sun is directly over the equator, the Asian continental mass heats up more than the surrounding Indian Ocean.

Wat Tham Pha Plong is at the end of the road that goes past the caves, Malee's and Chiang Dao Nest. It is half way up the side of the mountain in a small cave surrounded by forest, with over 500 steps to the top. It has some great views, and due to it's location is completely peaceful. It is possible to do meditation here. Some of the monks speak very good English and can arrange for you to spend the night at the temple. Don't expect too much sleep though, as they wake up at 3.00am for teaching.
As well as being a very beautiful place the temple has importance as the last teaching place of a highly revered and respected monk. Looang Boo Sim Buddhacaro spent over ten years teaching Buddhism at Wat Tham Pha Plong.

    Beautiful Krabi
  • Tip Rating:
  • History
When the secret of wind and water way was learned, navigation brought men of different races from faraway lands to make history in Krabi. In the former time, attractive trade profits and abundant natural resources lured profit seekers to come here; but today unspoiled natural resources and challenging out door activities attract those nature-lovers who seek to enjoy local hospitality and to live their lives to the fullest.
    People
Krabi?s open door has invited people of different races to come here for generations. Cavemen and wandering sea gypsy lived from hunting and collecting edibles, while traders lived with commercial profits, and subsequent urban people enjoy the wealth of resources here, from elephants, forestry, fishing, palm oil to present-day tourism. Each
group of people represents each page in the tapestry of Krabi?s long and colorful history.

    Bridge on the river Kwai,Kanchanaburi
  • Tip Rating:
  • It is a few hours by shuttle from Bangkok.
When you know what has happened here during World War II or have seen the movie this is very, very impressive....it made me very quiet anyway.
You visit the cemetary and the bridge itself and on most tours you take the "death train" over the Birma railway or as they call it ...the Death Railway.
