So many activities and buildings you can see from the river of Chao Phraya. The sailorman tell me, that brown water of this river and klongs indicate that the river is clean. If the river in bad condition, the color will turn to black!!!

Chao Phraya River: Chao Phraya River
  • Tip Rating:
  • A cruise along Chao Phraya River at night is one of the best scenic river cruise.

Many interesting sights and buildings along Chao Phraya have been lit up at night.
Several restaurants and hotels along the river provide several cruises to choose from.

Take the BTS to Taksin Station and take a min walk to the jetty.

A day tour along the Chao Phraya River can give you a glimps of how Thailand is like. Many of the historic sights of Bangkok lie on on the banks of the Chao Phraya river which is why it's such a great way to get around.

  • Directions: One of the piers at the end (Tha Sathorn) links with the Skytrain terminus, so even if your accomodation is away from the river, it's still within easy reach.

Chao Phraya River: The Major Transportation Artery
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you wants to avoid the traffic, Chao Phraya is the solution.
You can see many temples jumping on Chao Phraya Express, one of the easiest and cheapest way to do. You can also visit the klongs, the little cannals around BKK. Just rent a private long tail boat for 300bht a couple during one hour. Dont pay more than this.

Chao Phraya River: Chao Phraya River Cuise
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Chao Phraya is a major river in Thailand, with its low alluvial river plain marking the mainland of the country in the Central Region. The Chao Phraya runs from north to south for 372 km from the central plains to Bangkok and the Gulf of Thailand. However in Chainat the river splits into the main river course and the Tha Chin river, which then flows parallel to the main river and exits to Gulf of Thailand the about 35 km west of Bangkok in Samut Sakhon. In the low alluvial plain which begins below the Chainat dam many small canals (khlong) split off from the main river, used for the irrigation of the rice paddies.

The cities along the river are Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Singburi, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Bangkok and Samut Prakan. (however, most chao phraya river tours are located in bangkok or in ayutthaya). The trip along Chao Phraya River is a very exciting and enjoyable thing to do for visitors either in the day time or in the evening with dinner served on the river cruise. The most famous area to start is from Royal Orchid Sheraton - Oriental - Shangri-La hotels. Off course the river cruise can be made from hotels on the oppositeside such as the Penninsular, the Marriot and some others.

During the day, a trip can be made with small long-tail boat, taxi boat (slower), and with group tour. Mostly, they take tourists into Bangkok Noi and other canals where you can see typical and
a completely different life-style along the canals. These scenes are the old way of living in the past that people depended mostly upon river and canals transportation. Now, the front access is the modern roads, but canals are still used a lot. Typical old houses, temples, shops, and the way people buy and sell things can still be seen, especially when you visit the "Floating Market", such as Bangsai Floating Market, and Taling Chan.

It's interesting to see a river running within a city. It's more interesting to see the people and the architecture on both sides of the river banks.

You'll see the locals washing in the river, you'll be amazed by the huts, you'll be impressed by the view when you are approching Temple of Dawn...

Don't miss it. Join a river tour or simply take a river taxi (a public ferry) to explore this lovely river.

Chao Phraya River: Ride the River Ferries!
  • Tip Rating:
  • One of the great things to do in Bangkok that is quite inexpensive is to take a ferry with the Chao Phraya Express Boat along the river. The boats carry different coloured flags that indicate how many stops they make. You can choose an express boat with minimal stops to get you from A -B or take the boat that is all stops....and see everything.
Prices vary from 9- 25 Baht one way......very cheap!

One of the ways to glane thru' BKK is via a cruise along the Chao Phraya River. Just pay about 100 baht which include 1 day river pass, guidebook, drinking water & etc.
This cruise stops at tourist spots like Chinatown, wat Pho, Maharaj Pier, national museum and other exiciting places.
The only set back is the boat ride don't stop at the majestic Wat Arun.

    Chao Phraya River: Boat Trips
  • Tip Rating:
  • There're wide-variety of boat trips available along Chao Phraya River. Take the BTS Skytrain to Saphan Taksin (terminal station) then go down to the ferry station where you'll find several boat companies offering you day-trips to: Orchid Farm, Floating Market, ..... Or just simply ride along the river, enjoying the temples and villagers' way-of-life.
