 | Bangkok Khao San Road Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 46 | | Khao San Road is THE PLACE to go if you look for young backpackers travelers ambiance! It is open all night, here you will find places open 24 h for a late dinner or an early breakfast. I spent there 4 hours 1 night, from 5 to 9 am, though it was not voluntarily: I took the previous night the Sabaidee bus from Vientiane (Laos), that was supposed to arrive in KSR at 8 in the morning. So, I though, I would have a quick breakfast, leave the luggage and would go visit a few things in BKK! BUT the bus arrived "a bit" early, at 5 am!!! So there I was, in the middle of KSR, along with the last drunk partiers, totally dark all around. Luckily enough, Nat Guest House terrace was open, so I sat there and had some time to finish my Diaries, complete some watercolors, read a bit, see a whole movie, have 2 breakfasts and connect for a (long) while to internet... Every form of entertainment can be found along Khao San Rd at night. Every type of pub / bar / club is located here, though the clubs are a bit skimpy. Most of the nightlife here is centered on getting you to eat at their establishment, drink heavily, and then continue to drink heavily. There are street performers and stalls blaring techno every hundred feet or so. Its fun enough just to be here, but pick a bar and you will be happy. Leave a Comment Theme: Other |
At Brick Bar you can get cocktails, beers, but also cola. Here there usually is live music every evenening. Sometimes there is just one band and sometimes there are more on one evening. It's cool to here Thai doing english songs. Some are very good and some are abolutely not ;o) You will be sure to meet many cheerful Thai, but also some other tourists. A nice bar for a fun evening, but don't come earlier than 21:30 h, cause otherwise there are almost no people here.
Wear anything you like, it doesn't really matter. Leave a Comment Theme: Live Music |
It's nice to sit outdoors and watch people walking while having a sip of your beer or eating. Or if it's a bit too hot, sitting inside enjoying the dj's music is also nice. But you may have to shout, instead of talking normally with your friends. The music is quite loud. Silk bar fried rice is my fav dish there.
It's in a backpacker area. So you can dress any way you want. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and Drinking |
Khao San Road is probably world famous for its backpackers guest houses. So, you can imagine the atmosphere going on in this area. During evening or nighttime, lots of street vendors selling food, drinks, souvenirs, ... Also lots of adresses where you can check your mail. It's very lively, but of course not very Thai, since almost everyone around here is a foreigner. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and Drinking |
Our family always spends a lot of time at Khao San Road at night when we're in BKK - as we stay in Chinatown, which is not the safest outside certain boundaries. We like the containment of Khao San, and the variety of restaurants closeby, the shopping, massage, banana pancakes etc....... I was aware that there was an adult entertaintment industry at Khao San, which is much more discrete than Patpong - and, on subsequent trips, realise that it really kicks off a bit later in the night. So, if you are gone by about 9.00pm, you will miss out on the "action". Or, if you are looking for the action, turn up later! Gents are not safe from approaches from touts even in Khao San, even accompanied by their spousal watchdogs! Theme: Family Spot |

Lava is one of the nightclubs on Khao San Road, the heart of the backpackers' barrio... Located down in the basement level, this is your typical Western style bar and nightclub, completely indistinguishable from what you would find in any major city in Europe, North America, or South America... This photo shows one of the girls that work at Lava... At least, it appears to be a girl...! Leave a Comment Theme: Nightclub |
After spending some time walking down Khao San Road with VT memebers Tina(Gweenie) and Arjan (Armado), we finally found this bar. We were actually looking for the Reggae Bar, but it was too full of people to sit, so we walked a little more and found the Harley Bar. Both of these bars are located just off of Khao San, on a side street, but I can't remember the exact name. As you get closer you can hear the reggae music from both bars playing and then before you know it, you are right in the middle of both bars. The Harley Bar is obviously a tribute to the motorcycle of the same name, as there is lots of shirts, pictures, and a very old harley behind the bar. We ended up staying here until well after closing and I had a great time. After sharing a couple of cheap "buckets" and some Chang, it turned out to be a pretty good find, as I have never been here on any of my previous trips.
None that I could tell, but a Harley or Bob Marley shirt may not hurt....haha. Leave a Comment Theme: People WatchingDirections: On a Soi located near Khao San Road. |

So many travellers. Everyone seems to understand each other & blend well together. Tattoo parlours, Thai massages, Food stalls, Travel Agency etc. etc. are abandon here. Khao San Road always seems crowded with people from all over the word. A lot of people say that this is a backpacker ghetto. If you haven't been to Khao San, take a stroll here & witness for yourself and decide whether you like it or not…From the guest house we stayed at Pra Athit Road…Khao San is just a few minutes walk & we were there almost every night! Wherever you are, just take some precaution & use common sense…Que sera sera! Theme: People Watching |
