Wat Phu Khao Thong
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Wat Phu Khao Thong or "Temple of the Golden Mountain" is located a couple of kms to the north of town.
This massive buiding was built originally in the14th century but it has been enlarged in the following centuries. The huge chedi is probably the highest in Ayuthaya: 80 mt.

    Temple in the rice fields
  • Tip Rating:
  • I don't remember the name of this Temple but it is a few miles out of town. We were just cruising the countryside and my friend wanted to show me the Temple. It was a beautiful setting. We could see the clouds weren't look real friendly but we ascended the heights of the Temple. The stairs are very steep! As we arrived at the highest point on the Temple that you can climb we saw 2 lightning strikes off in the distance. I didn't feel real comfortable being on the highest point of ground for miles around. So we took a few photos and made our way back down. Just as we arrived back at the car the storm reached us and it was raining so hard that the windshield wipers couln't even keep up. There were so really close lightning strikes and the thundeer was so loud. I'm glad we didn't wait another 5 minutes at the top of the Temple or we could have been in some serious trouble.

    Under the shade trees
  • Tip Rating:
  • At Wat Ratburana there are some shade trees to hide from the afternoon sun. Also you can always sit on the shade side of the main prang. There is a little shop near the entrance selling soft drinks , water etc..

    Local fisherman
  • Tip Rating:
  • You can hire a boat to take you around the Island of Ayuthaya for fairly cheap! It's a nice 1- 1˝ hour ride. You can see alot of local life as people work and play near the river. I found it to be quite interesting.

    Bang Pa-In Palace
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bang Pa-in Palace was used as a country residence by the royalties. It now appears with various distinctive buildings, such as the Chinese-style pavilion and the famous Thai pavilion in the middle of the pond.

    Wat Chai Wattaranam
A lot of people miss this wonderful temple, that is my preferred one in Ayuthaya, located in good position over the river. It's out of ancient town towards west. You need a tuk - tuk.
