I stayed at this hotel during Thanksgiving of 2001 and I can only assume that it is still pretty much the same way that I left it. I got a reasonable rate off of Expedia for it, which along with the location is the only reason we stayed there. It's a huge hotel, capable of accommodating probably thousands, but it's really looking its age and lacks amenities of hotels half of its size. There were several problems with our stay. To begin with, there were three of us and I had said so in the reservation. Yet we only had two twin beds. The hotel staff said that there was not an available cot so two of us had to sleep together-NOT an easy fit. The floor in the room was tile and not carpeted, which made it a little cold on early morning feet. There was virtually no furniture in the massive lobby and hundreds of people were checking in. It took us an hour and a half to get checked in. While one person stood in line for awhile, the other two would rest. Yet we got yelled at by security for sitting on the floor. (There was nowhere else to sit.)
The location of the hotel is its best asset. It's within walking distance of Macy's, Pennsylvania Station, and Madison Square Garden. It also had a pretty good hotel restaurant, as well as being connected to Lindy's Diner. There are definitely better values around town, though, if you look for them. This one definitely needs to be renovated and refurbished. In another city, I couldn't see it being worth more than $65 a night. In New York it was twice that. Leave a Comment
