 | San Francisco Adelaide Hostel Hotel Reviews | Tips 1 - 7 of 7 | | A short walk from the Market Street and Powell Street area BART station. Adelaide Hostel is cheap and basic. I used it as my base and it served me well. It has a small kitchen and adjoining social area with a TV. There is also free internet access via two computers. The Alelaide website claims that the dorm rooms have a maximum of four beds - this is not true, mine had six beds and it was quite tight. There was only one sink available which was in the room. There was a shower room on the floor with two toilets next door. This was for about 20-30 people. I stayed in the Adelaide twice, on my second time I was placed in a room which took three people. One person in a top (single) bunk and a couple sharing the bottom (double) bunk. It's a bit cosy again and may not suit everyone. However it is cheap and clean.
The website is much flashier than the hostel itself! Leave a Comment |

18 room hostel located on Taylor and Post in Union Square. Some rooms are private, but most shared. All bathrooms are shared. Make a small non-refundable deposit with your reservation and pay the balance on arrival. Deposits and reservations can be made online and paid for with American Express, Master Card or Visa. Free high speed internet access from 7am to midnight 7 days a week. If you need transportation to the airport after your stay, tell the front desk the night before and they will arrange a shuttle to pick you up in the morning. Shuttle cost: $9 Its not the easiest place to find. Isadora Duncan Ct is basically an alley that dead ends after about 200 metres. If you give the address to a taxi or shuttle driver they may have a hard time finding it. I found it better to tell taxi's to take me to Taylor and Post, then just walk the block or so to the hostel. Bring a map with you the first time you come, otherwise its difficult to find. This is a beautiful gem of a hotel/hostel that also has private hotel rooms. Located in the heart of downtown San Francisco, The famous cable cars ,Fishermans wharf , China town ,Theater district and all attractions are only a short walk away. This place feels like a charming European style hotel which in fact it is how it was designed and most of the guests appear to international travellers enjoying a trip to San Francisco. For between $20 - $70 this is a great value.
The Adelaide Hostel has free internet computers for the use of all their guests (great for checking E-mail or booking airline tickets while on the road) and free no need for expensive internet cafes. They also offer free breakfast with great home brewed coffee or tea. I opted to rent a hotel room here and ended up with a two room "suite" for about $30/night. I'm an old guy and while I was older than most of the other guests, had no problem having great conversations with my fellow travelers. The hostel/hotel is located in an alley (Isadora Duncan Place) off a main street. The area is well lit at night and seems safe. There are neighborhoods not too far away that are not safe at night, but this is not one of them. Public transportation (Muni bus, tram and cable cars) are close by, but I mostly walked. It's in a great location, just a few blocks from Union Square. Breakfast is basic with decent coffee, rolls, peanut butter, etc. Be aware that the Adelaide only takes cash. I talked to one young traveler who was doing some work for the hotel in return for her weeks lodging. This is mostly an international crowd.
I got free wireless internet access from my room, I believe courtsey of someone who lived in the apartment building across the alley. Leave a Comment |

i stayed at the adelaide hostel. it's located at 5 isadora duncan place. this street was formerly adelaide place, so if you plan to search for it on a map, it may stil lsay adelaide and not isadora. isadora duncan was a famous dancer some years ago, and this street was named after her. price is 18dollars in us currency per night. or slightly cheaper if you pay per week.
the price for the hostel in feb. 2002 is $18.00 dollars per night. if you decide to pay weekly, i believe the price is lowered and it's like getting one night for free. the downside is that they advertise $17.00 a night, and that they have internet access on their website (www.adelaidehostel.com)both of these, they do not have. Stay was ok. I stayed in one of the only room with 6 beds. Try and get a room with only 4 people. Staff was great. Leave a Comment |
fine room at a good price. The atmosphere bordered on the Y.h.a. type of hostel if you need that prep, school safety value.
Good general atmosphere |
