 | London Thistle Charing Cross Reviews | Tips 1 - 5 of 5 | | | | | | Thistle Charing Cross: Guoman Charing Cross (previously the Thistle)
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We had been invited to a wedding in central London and decided to make a night of it and stay in a hotel for the night. That said, we didn't want to spend too much money on a swanky hotel, so settled for the Guoman Charing Cross (previously the Thistle) as it was reasonably priced (by London standards) and in a convenient location for us. The hotel is located right by Charing Cross train station, so is incredibly convenient to the West End and its attractions. It has 239 rooms, and it was a bit of a walk to get to ours….which turned out to be right next to the elevator - not always the best place to be due to noise. We had booked via a "cheap" deal, so I guess you don't always get the best room in those circumstances. As it turned out we didn't have any problems with noise thankfully.
The room was a decent size for a London hotel, and decorated tastefully (well, if you are in to flowery padded headboards that is). All the staff we came into contact with were friendly. We decided not to pay the extra charge for breakfast the next morning, and headed off for a big breakfast elsewhere. The hotel suited our needs perfectly and it was a fine place to stay. Not sure we would bother again, as at Ł130 it wasn't really a cheap night, but it is certainly well located for tourists looking for a central 4 star hotel. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Thistle Charing Cross: Priceline-Mayfair/Soho, best yet!
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Once again, I looked to Priceline to book my hotel and decided to bid the Mayfair/Soho area since I needed to be centrally located and I was pretty sure that I would get this hotel. I ended up bidding $80 per night to stay here and it's probably the best bargain I've ever gotten on Priceline. The hotel is fabulously located within walking distance of Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Covent Garden and Piccadilly Circus and within walking distance of the Northern, Central, District and Piccadilly tube lines not to mention many of the central bus routes. To get to the hotel from Heathrow, consider taking the Piccadilly line to Hammersmith where you can change to the District line on the same platform and get off at Embankment. Use the Villiers St./Covent Garden exit, walk up the cobbled street (slight incline) and turn left at the top, hotel is right there over the Charing Cross station. Breakfast is not included in the Priceline rate but there's a fabulous place to get breakfast at the nearby Cafe in the Crypt at St. Martin's in Trafalgar Square. A full English breakfast is around L6 and they give you enough food that you don't have to eat lunch. Oh, and if anyone tells you to rent the movie "Creep" before you go here, just don't do it!!!! It's a horror movie set underneath the Charing Cross tube station which you'll likely use every day. That is, unless you watch this movie!!!!
Room-very spacious, loads larger than lots of London hotel rooms! Contemporary decor, amenities included a minibar with some space for your stuff, in room safe, ironing board. Bed was comfortable with a down comforter, choice of down or regular pillows. No movie channels unless you wanted to pay extra, internet connection if you have a laptop. Electronic "do not disturb", don't forget to turn it off though! And a doorbell :-) Bathroom-plenty of hot water, decent water pressure, heated towel rack. Toiletries were only shampoo, soap and bath gel, no conditioner or lotion Guest services-I don't typically use the concierege when I stay at hotels but they were helpful with directions. Check in was at 2pm and the room wasn't ready until then. | | | | Thistle Charing Cross: Best location for a hotel
| | | | |
Service was excellent. Room was very neat, though did find wall-paper peeling from a corner wall. The best part of this hotel is its location, right next to Charing Cross station and a block away from Trafalgar square. From here, you can get anywhere via foot, cab, train, or subway. Restaurants, theatres, and bars are abundant in the immediate 3 square blocks. Covent Gardens is a 5 minute walk. Not much farther to Piccadilly, museums, and galleries.
Location is the most important. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageDirections: Trafalgar Square
