 | | | | Tijcal I Hostal Madrid: Great Location... and good value
| | | | |
We stayed 2 nights at Hostal TIJCAL I, and the stay had good and bad points.... On the good hand the location was amazing, just through one of the arches leading out of Plaza Major... you could walk to the Royal Palace in about 10 minutes, to Puerto Del Sol in 5 minutes, and to the Prado in about 30 minutes. This central historical area was much prettier than staying at one of the many budget hotels on Gran Via for example. The staff were very helpful, with good English, and with a 24 hour reception. The decor was plain and simple, and well-maintained. Bad points were I was unlucky to get a tiny room without a window, which was horribly stuffy and smelly, even with the air conditioning, but it was very quiet and let you sleep without being kept awake by the street cleaners or daylight... whereas my friends had a lovely little balcony, but it was very noisy with the window open. There was a small lift up to the hostal reception on the 2nd floor, or you can climb the treacherous well-worn stairs if you're feeling energetic.
Basically I would recommend it if you're looking a cheap room in the best area of town.. but don't expect 5* facilities.. but what do you expect for 30 Euros per person per night! And try to request a balcony...
