Best Western Eden Hotel: One Night Stand    Check Rates

  • There is nothing wrong with this hotel at all: excellent location, on the river, pretty much central but not too central to be noisy.

Rooms are fine, if a little basic and if you book in advance and pay a small supplement you can get a front (river-facing) view. I think they also have some self-catering apartments if u stay more than x days.

But then all this info is on the site.

I should note I only stayed one night and so didn't get to know any of the staff, didn't really get a proper feel for the place............but....

    Ha...........polemic mode now!!

Nice easy check-in, unpacked and phoned down for iron and ironing board, - still can't work out why it is that the lighter I travel the more my clothes get creased up - but that's a digression to be returned to! (Actually I think the baggage handlers do it on purpose - find the lightest, squishiest bag ............and put it on the bottom of the pile, underneath the sets of golf clubs, then build from there...........)

Back to the polemic - having been assured the iron and board would be dispatched immediately............after about 45 mins I am considering ringing down again when it finally arrives..............and it is the crappiest possible iron and board. Anyway such is life!

No problems whatsoever with facilities, comfortable bed, hot and cold water, TV worked fine but only viewable from bed, but not here to lie in bed watching TV so not a big thing!

Check-out, no problems. "Can I leave my bag here for a couple of hours?"

"Certainly Sir. The luggage room is on the left, I'll ring for the concierge."

    OK so far.

5 minutes later some guy with a tweed jacket turns up and using his swipe card opens luggage room - I'm standing here like a lemon - "Can I put this in here?" I asked.

GRUNT REPLY "You'll have to get the concierge to do that!"

Hey, just a minute..........I?? will have to get the concierge to do that.

These little things really bug me - I'm assuming that Mr Tweed Jacket was the General Manager...........so no wonder that there seemed to be no "service mentality" with the staff.

When the concierge did finally arrive he was actually a really nice guy - all smiles and moustaches.

And when I picked my bag up a couple of hours later he was the only person who actually smiled and said "Thanks for staying with us, have a good day."

OK, I'm a nit-picker, but a few more smiles make everyone's day (even if they're fake!)

Best Western Eden Hotel: Great Central Location    Check Rates
  • Satisfaction:
  • This hotel may not have had the charm that I was expecting but the benefits I believe outweighed the cons.

    Pros:
Amazing Central Local along the Amstel River near Rembrantplein
    Breakfast Included in room rate
Elevators!!!! A big deal when you have a large suitcase.
    Friendly Staff
    Dataport in room
Window in room that opens to outside.
    Safe well-populated area
    Walking Distance to practically everything.
    Internet access in lobby

    Cons:
    Their attempt at scrambled eggs.
    Room decor
A little pricy at the time I was there due to a large internation convention going on.

This hotel has a nice view of the Amstel river if you're lucky enough to be on that side of the building.
This certainly wasn't the nicest hotel I've stayed in but it had everything that I required.

Best Western Eden Hotel: Sited near pubs/restaurants    Check Rates
  • Satisfaction:
  • Stayed in hotel as part of package deal. Was pricey (Eu120 per night double room) for what u get. i.e. Shower,TV,bed. However was clean and quite central to most areas such as shops, pubs, restaurants and nightclubs. About 25 mins walk south of Central Station but close to Rembrandt square with trams and taxi boats within 50m. Would recommend hotel for couples or groups as it is near to most main attractions in Amsterdam.

Central to most attractions - Shops, restaurants, markets and zoo.

Best Western Eden Hotel: Nice Hotel in Old Amsterdam    Check Rates
  • Satisfaction:
  • I was in Amsterdam for a long weekend and stayed at the Best Western Eden. It is a decent walk from the hotel to the main train station, but the hotel is in a very nice area, right off a canal. It offers great views of old Amsterdam and the canals. The architecture in the area is very nice. It was a nice quaint hotel, but if you are going in the summer don't expect air conditioning...

Best Western Eden Hotel: Cool Apartment Option    Check Rates
  • Satisfaction:
  • I was very happy with the service at this hotel. We arrived wee before the 15:00 check in time and asked to leave our luggage. Not only were we offer a room at the time but we were also offered an hotel owned apartment a few buildings down at the same price. BE WARNED its drafty and poorly insulated. They do however have two bedrooms a kitchen maid service and all the other hotel amenities. Located a few doors down from the main hotel. 4 story with NO lift...You do get your own apartment though which in Amsterdam can be a plus!

Best Western Eden Hotel: Rather overpriced    Check Rates
  • Satisfaction:
  • Very overcrowded town with expensive hotel rooms and rather dirty. Stayed here 3 days. 99 euros for a small double room, cleaning was very superficial. TV has 3 BBC channels. No real complaints though.

Best Western Eden Hotel: Good Little Hotel    Check Rates
  • Satisfaction:
  • Hotel is right on the tramway. Short walk (1/4 to half mile) to grocery, liquor and bars. Comfortable beds. The rooms we had, 119 and 116, were quiet. Door slams are expected not intentional. The breakfast IS included on certain plans, and quite good I might add. Friendly staff.

It's a non-smoking hotel, but they have a great park 10 feet away. Nice for smokers of both kinds. It's quiet, out off the main drag.
