Amsterdam is famous about it's houseboats, so why not stay on the water yourself. The waves will make you fall asleep softly after a busy day in the thrilling capitol of The Netherlands. Easy check-in /check-out with friendly reception staff. I had a small room with small bathroom with shower, TV, and small safe box.
It is floating on water, it doesn't move at all so no worry for sea-sick.
Game room and cafe/restaurant on board.
They hold your luggage before the check-in and after the check-out.
You can pick a room with landview or canal view. If you don't spend much time in a room, choose landview room and save 5 euro.
There are single, double/twin, and triple rooms. The hotel is 5 mn from central station (where you arrive from the airport) and very close to the center of the town. you also have access to most of the trams at central station.
the hotel is basic inside but clean. you can also choose to have a room with view on the big canal. Prices are reasonnable considering its location. Leave a Comment Theme: Hotel

The Botel is a hard left from Amsterdam Centaal station through the bus lot. about a 5 minute walk. Check in was easy. we had room 455 and 438-one had a veiw of the canal and the oter a veiw of construction. rooms were quite roomy and clean. Rooms had a TV but no coffee makers- had breakfast available but we slept too late. We called room service because a TV was not working and they came up and fixed it right away. Beds were very soft. Shower was small. It was kind of noisey-you could hear people coming and going at all hours but not miserable. Bar was nice-friendly people. About a 10 minute walk to main street. This botel is next to the floating chineese restaurant and museum.

I'de heard a lot of good reports about this hotel in the past though every time I tried to book it it was either full or more expensive than I wanted to pay but finally I managed to get a 4 night stay here at a reasonable rate - admittedly in the middle of November. As Amsterdam hotels go I can add my recommendation too.
Rooms are immaculately clean, and by Amsterdam standards relatively spacious and well furnished. Service is friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet worth getting up for. My only little quibble was that the T-mobile internet connection was a bit on the expensive side.
The hotel itself is a boat, at present moored on the IJ a short walk from Centraal Station which makes for an ideal location for exploring Amsterdam given that Centraal is the main hub for all forms of transport around the city. BTW - even though it is an actual boat it is very firmly moored and so you have no worries on the seasickness side, only the overindulgence side!
At the time of writing - November 2006 - extensive work is being done on the dock which I believe will require the Botel to be moved sometime in the relatively near future which may take it from its present central location, I assume the website will be updated as and when this happens. The Amstel Botel is a floating hotel which was located at the East-side of the Central Station for many years. In January 2008 the Botel moved to the other side of "'IJ", the Amsterdam harbour.
The ferry from the Central Station is free and will bring you to its new location.
Also there's a free shuttle bus service from the Central Station. Leave a Comment

While this was a great location, the staff was VERY unfriendly. We asked on two different occassions, to 2 different staff, recommendations on eating and they acted as if we were bothering them with nonsense. We have traveled all over the world and been to Amsterdam before and never recieved such poor hospitality. I suggest a small canal house or B&B---We have stayed at the Rho Hotel before and enjoyed this hotel.

A mock boat which sits (its not actually floating as its base is concrete but it looks like it is) in a harbour next to the floating Chinese restaurant.
It has great views from the harbour side of the hotel. Its in a quiet area but near enough to be within walking distance of many of the main attractions. the botel is in an ideal location near the bus stops, tramstops, and centraal station. the hotel is clean and basic. the breakfast is nothing special but the coffee is good. I would recommend this hotel mostly for its location - three mins walk from the Centraal Station, and situated on a picturesque section of canal (just make sure you get a canal-side room, the land-side overlooks a yucky buiding site).
The room was fair, if a little basic. The bed was very comfortable, (but watch out for the sticking-out panel above the headboard which contains the reading lights - its a hazzard and guaranteed to give you a headache when you crash your head on it!) The bathroom was very very tiny, but adequate. You do have to sit on the loo at a funny angle to avoid the basin, but this is something which can be dealt with. Our main problem with the bathroom in our room was that it was shabby and suffering from mildew. In fact the whole room, although clean, was a little shabby around the edges.
The other thing to think about when booking this hotel is "how well do I want to get to know my room's neighbours?". The rooms have walls and floors which are so thin they flex, and you can hear everything that is going on around your room.
And the plumbing...ah yes...! Don't book this hotel if you are a fan of the power shower. No such luxury here. Also, the plumbing is the noisiest I have ever enountered in a hotel. The pipes whistle, thump, bang and make dripping sounds 24 hours a day!
Bar? Open late (but they all are in Amsterdam!) Convinient for a late pint before bed, but utterly charmless in all respects.
Final verdict? Well, ignore the three star rating. This is a phony continental rating. If the hotel was in the UK it would only be a two star hotel. But if you are on a budget, and just need a cheap crash pad within easy distance of the Centraal Station - this is the one to pick. Despite the negative points, I would recommend this. Turn left, walk thru tram zone then thru bus station. Gantry to the Amstel Botel is straight ahead over water (about 3 or 4 mins walk).
