I stayed at the Mecenate Palace hotel for three nights in a triple room. The hotel is a little more expensive than the others in the area (279e/ night) but it was worth every penny!

The Mecenate Palace Hotel is in a wonderful location (right next to the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, a 10 minute walk from the train station). The hotel is very elegant and the service at the front desk is top notch. Our room was large and furnished with beautiful cherrywood furniture. The bathroom was enormous and really luxurious. Overall, the service was outstanding.

There is a wonderful rooftop restaurant/bar/patio here with great views that we really enjoyed. The hotel is also close to the Metro. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rome.

Mecenate Palace Hotel: A much better Rome 4 star!    Check Rates

  • We have recently returned from a 4 night stay at the Mecenate.
It is a four star hotel overlooking the Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore and the Church. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the station and 15 minutes from the coliseum and forum.

The building is impressive and well placed. We never felt threatened. You wouldn't want to be any nearer the Termini (Station) as it is quite a rough area.

The rooms were very small but very clean - sheets, pillowcases and towels were changed daily. However, the carpets looked a little grubby. We had a problem with a leaking shower which would result in a soaking wet carpet outside the bathroom.

When we arrived, the rooftop terrace was closed for renovation. This is a key selling point of the hotel - look at their website - and so they could have let me know this renovation was taking place. They did email me to offer a taxi from the airport for 50 euros and so knew how to communicate!!

The breakfast didn't change from cereals, rolls, ham, cheese and yogurts throughout our stay. However there is the option to buy bacon and eggs if you want it.

I seem to have moaned a lot but to be fair, it was an elegant and comfortable hotel. The room always felt clean and the beds were small but superbly comfortable. Breakfast choice was very limited but the stocks were regularly refreshed and coffee was plentiful. Double glazing worked well and the heating was easily controlled.

100 euros a night was an excellent rate.

The rooftop terrace was superb and the views were even better.

Our stay was fine the air conditioning was not on so we needed to leave the windows open
The front desk staff where not the most helpful, but we had no real troubles either
If you need attention from the staff this is not the place for you, if you are an independent traveler or use to business travel you?ll be fine
The rooms where small But Very clean I don?t know why people raving about the roof restaurant its nothing to rant on about
The location worked out to be great we where able to walk to the near by Bus station and with a routing map get all over the city with out any trouble (this was the first time I have ever taken a bus any were If I can do it any one can ticket are 1euro for 75min a trip) I would stay here again but this is not a 4 star in my book
If we had Kids with us we would not stay here again it is to far from the main arears you will be visting pay a littel more for the location and get closer to the center
NO INTERNET IN YOUR ROOM Just one terminal in the lobby we went to a cafe for access My wife was working while we where there
Tips 1 sneakers a must ,2 binoculars I wish I had taken them, 3 a Small Latin dictionary
This is a trip you dont want to miss
PS take the Bus trip to naples 105 euros it goes to Pompeii naples is a mess but the guided tour of Pompeii is the bomb
    Good Luck

  • We couldn't hav been more pleased with our choice of the Hotel Mecenate Palace. With a whole week in Rome, my days to be spent sightseeing, several of MrL's working at the Nueva Feria out near the airport, we wanted somewhere close to the station and, as the guidebooks all tell you - the Termini area can be dicey so we were a little wary. We found any worries were quite groundless. Situated on the corner of tree-lined Via Carlo Alberto and Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, the hotel's location was excellent. The station was less than 5 minute's walk way but neither the streets nor the square surrounding the hotel were in any way dubious.

Once inside the door, it just got better. Booking early and for more than 5 nights gave us an upgrade to a superior room overlooking the Piazza. The size of the room was fine for this part of the world, the bathroom was absolutely fine too. Pretty furnishings, a wonderfully comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities (a real rarity in Rome) all made for a very comfortable stay.

Breakfast was quite a feast for Italy - where breakfast is not something to be taken seriously. Fresh fruit, yoghurt, cold meats, cheeses, boiled eggs, a variety of breads and spreads, tea and coffee was all laid out in the restaurant, where tables were set in a pretty enclosed terrace or set up out in the sunshine with a panoramic view all around. One small quibble - why, in this land of wonderful fruit, was the morning juice not freshly squeezed?

Wi-fi internet access was available in the rooms, albeit at a fairly hefty charge but useful for anyone in Rome on business, plus there was a machine available in the lobby for more casual use. The bar/coffee shop is only open at lunchtime but in a city crammed with cafes and restaurants, that shouldn't be a problem.

The general location and amenities of the hotel apart, two things really added to the appeal of the Mecenate Palace. Carlo on the front desk was a delight. Charming, helpful, never-failingly polite - he is a huge asset to the hotel and I hope they know it.

The roof terrace bar with its view over the Basilica soon became our favourite place for the hour between MrL arriving back from his working day and heading out for the evening. Up there in the evening light, the rooftops of Rome all around us, leaning on the parapet, glass of something cold, white and light in our hands, soaking in the view and the sunset - way to go!

  • This is a good 4 star hotel within a 5 minute walk from Termini railway station. This means it is easy to get to from Leonardo da Vinci (Fiomicino) airport because there is a half hourly shuttle direct from the airport to Termini for only 11 euros per person.

The hotel is delightful. The rooms were small but splendid including tea and coffee making facilities and bedroom slippers. The TV had only 2 English channels so we watched a lot of CNN. The bathroom is very well equipped and the bath and shower were both lovely and hot. There was a well equipped mini bar and a safe. Our only problem was that the room was really hot and we had to open a window. It was a very mild December.

They don't have a restaurant (they do bar snacks but the sandwiches are rather boring) but there are loads of eating place for all budgets within a five minute walk. Don't walk south though (the area gets decidedly dodgy quite quickly at night)

Really recomended. The staff were all really helpful especially the waiters at breakfast and the barman.

Breakfast is on the (enclosed) roof top terrace (beautiful) and is standard buffet.

The bar has happy hour at 6.30 PM to 8.00 PM at 5 euro each drink and the Long Island Iced Teas were the strongest I have ever drunk.

    The staircase is brilliant!!!
