  • A friendly hotel in the centre of Rome with easy access to most of the main tourist sites.
Rooms are comfortable, service is good. If you have a special dietary request it will be catered for as long as the kitchen is told in the morning, otherwise those who want supper are given a fixed menu.
    .

The main feature is the policy of guests sitting at round tables for 8 or so people, where everyone sits and chats and makes friends. The atmosphere is so friendly and relaxed, and the staff are so helpful that is more like being at home than in a hotel

  • Beautiful hotel, largest room we had in Europe. Clean, clean, clean. And beautiful. We felt like we were staying in someone's home. Lounge area, lovely dining room (breakfast was included - did not eat supper there). Cozy bar with ice (!) and it was great to have ice-cold drinks after long day. Small library area to swap books (English-language books are expensive in Italy)
Stayed three nights, location fantastic: 1 1/2 blocks from Colusseum, Forum, Palatine. Staff friendly and helpful. Laundry service: drop in a.m., in your room by p.m. An overall great place to stay.

View of ruins from our 4th floor room balcony. Two chairs and a table on balcony. Rooftop gardens and narrow street Capo d'Africa. Cobblestone, one-way.

  • Directions: Cab from Roma Termini was 8 Euros. Don't get ripped off - use cabs from cab stands only. We were approached by two different men offering to take us for "just 25 Euros" but I had read it should be 15-20. Surprise! Only 8.

Hotel Lancelot: Get on the good foot in Rome    Check Rates

  • This Christmas, for the first time ever, we were away for the holidays. The family arrived at Ciampino on the last flight into the Rome airport, according to our driver who took us to our delightful hotel The Lancelot.

It is right in the middle of the Eternal City on Via Capo D’Africa, a quiet street close to the Colosseum and a beautifully appointed family run place with friendly and gracious staff and interesting public areas with lots of games, books and antiques scattered around, not to mention a piano in the corner which was gently plinked and plonked in a festive manner during dinner times. We definitely struck lucky with this little gem and recommend it very highly to anyone who wants to get their Rome trip off to a great start (and how crucial is that.

Christmas Eve dinner commenced at 7.30p.m so in true Loudjazz style we arrived at 7.25, just in time to put a clean shirt on and freshen up the make up (not me- the wife and daughter you fool!).
The dining room was very elegant with ornate gilt mirrors, lots of candles and 10 large round tables laden with silverware, Christmassy flowers, plants, wine and candelabras. The tables seat 8 and you joined other guests at the table for dinner.

Ever get that wonderful feeling that comes with knowing you chose the right place? I got one of those as we were seated with a family from Reggio Emilia and helped myself to a very nice glass of Frascati from the bottles on the table.

Our dinner was very good; salmon carpaccio with pink peppercorns and rocket, then green cannelloni which was followed by grilled sea bass and then we finished off with a mango tart tatin with vanilla gelato perfumed with coconut batida..
The wine flowed freely and coffee arrived after which we had a little walk, ‘per digerire’ as they say over there, around the deserted streets of the ancient Rome Forum.
Altogether a great start to the hols.

    1. Quiet street but minutes from the colloseum
    2. Friendly English speaking staff who seemed happy to give good advice on dining, busses etc.
    3. The place looks a little old fashioned but very beautiful. Get in the mood for the Eternal City!
