 | Vienna Wombat's Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 22 | | I stayed at Wombat's hostel for three nights in August 2006. What a great place! Its best feature definitely is that it's spotless clean. (Voted Cleanest hostel in the world in 2003) I have seen so many hotels which were so dirty. The managers should stay at Wombat's some day. Or even better: How about an internship? ;) If the lobby wasn't that colourful, the people here weren't that young and the furniture wasn't so basic you would forget easily that you are in a hostel! Prices are very fair. We paid 24 EUR per person for a bed in an ensuite double room, half the price of the dirty hotel we had to move to for one night. Breakfast is available for 3.50 EUR, sheets and towel are included in the price. Staff was very friendly and international. There's a bar downstairs which is open from 6pm to 2 am. It's loud and cheap in there. A beer during happy hour costs 1 EUR, and a pizza is available for 3.90. There's a pool table and a table football available in the bar, too. The location 10 mts away from Westbahnhof is ok. I felt safe around there, the only not-so-nice-area is the Westbahnhof itself. At Mariahilfer Straße only a short walk from the hostel there's a bakery, shops, a supermarket and an excellent ice cream shop!
We stayed in two different double rooms. One was a handicapped room with a huge bathroom including tub and a double bed. The other one was a room under the roof with a nice view of Vienna by night, two single beds and a colourful bathroom. Both were clean. The only small problem was that the sheets of the double bed didn't really fit. But apart from that: Perfect! Wombat's have recently opened another hostel in the same area (directly on Äußere Mariahilfer Straße). It looks at least as great, a bit more stylish even. It's probably one of the best hostels I've ever stayed. I stayed in a room of 6 beds. It was bright and very clean. It cost 16 euros and 3.5 for breakfast in September, 2004. The only setback is its location. It's located behind the Westbahnhof. It was a bit dark and scary for me to head back from the main street late at night. Try its new branch in Munich. It was just open in late September. 21 euros per person per night. It's JUST two mintue walk from the main train station...a convenient location.

Clean,New,Convenient,Friendly,Comfortable,Safe,Lively. If I could fit this hostel in my pack,I'd bring it with me everywhere.
Immaculatly Maintained, great bar, laundry room,Great staff, great location, great patio, great rooms, great bathrooms, great guests, great prices, great balcony...did someone say great? I've stayed in over 30 hostels across America,The Caraïbe and Europe and this one is THE best. It makes me so much less tolerant of other (esp. European) hostels. I felt a sense of great value....and it was still there after I pinched myself! We'd heard good things about Wombat's and although being in the allegedly "not so nice part of the city" it was clean, cheap and had a great bar with pool table. We met some American and Dutch students who were living in Vienna here and had a fantastic evening. The rooms were 6 bed dorms with private bathrooms.
You get a free beer just for staying there.... This place got voted the cleanest hostel in the world in 2003. Spent there 5 days. It was pretty good. The PROS: - clean, - bathroom has soaps dispensers (good as a shampoo and a soap) in a shower and above the sink - very handy. - has a kitchen if you want to make your own lunch/dinner and a canteen with a TV. Supermarkets are nearby. - offers breakfast (3.5 euro per person). - has a bar downstairs. Discounted beer is served between 7pm and 8pm. - has Internet (1 euro for 40 minutes or 50 cents for 20 minutes). There are 5 computers. - close to the subway (U3) and bus #58 (which gets you to Shonbrunn palace). The CONS: - only one towel and it is small. - food is not allowed in the rooms. Have to eat it downstairs. - windows have no curtains (besides the black shades) and face the office building - easy to see. - not central (5 metro stops). - big, so the lounge area is usually crowded and computers are often occupied. - it is not the cheapest. PRICE: We payed 51 euros per night for a room with a bathroom.

I stayed one night at Wombat's hostel in Vienna before travelling on to rural Austria. It was within a few minutes walking distance of Westbahnhof so getting around wiht luggage was not a problem. Rooms were clean and quiet; prices was very reasonable. Leave a Comment Theme: HostelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageDirections: near Westbahnhof
