My memory tells me that this hotel has been one of Sydney's landmark CBD hotels, located on prestigious Phillip Street, for over 30 years. It has recently undergone a $60 million makeover to join one of the world's leading luxury hotel brands, offering 5-star quality and service. I stayed here in January 2002 so quite some time before this & it was still an undoubtedly classy place to stay.
I think what appeals to me about this hotel, apart from the class of its interior, is its location. This is the end of town I would prefer to stay in as it is an easy walk down to Circular Quay and the water. Equally, it is an easy walk across to the Botanic Gardens & again proximity to Sydney Harbour, but also the Art Gallery of NSW. (one of my favourite spots to visit). The current rack rate for a room for two people is $410 (Australian), but though the website listed below they are offering "Hot Deals" from Dec 11 through Jan 31, 2005 (except of course for New Year's Eve) at $225. It's about 7 minutes walk down to Circular Quay following Phillip St.Website: www.accorhotels.com.au/sofitel/index.asp

 | | | | Citigate Sebel Sydney: Nice View Over Central Station from our Room
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
This is another hotel I stayed at that wasn't of my own choosing, but because I wasn't paying for it & because it was hosting the conference I was co-presenting a workshop at it was ideal accommodation. If I was staying in the city with my family it would depend on why we were there to determine where we would stay. I'd stay here for the Surry Hills, Broadway, Darling Harbour & Chinatown attractions as I mention below. Mind you I think I'd still prefer to stay down near the water if I had a choice. It's like all good quality city hotels in the respect of the facilities & amenities it provides. While it would be in the second tier of hotels in our lovely city I didn't find that anything was lacking.
This hotel is in a good location in regard to Central Station which takes you back around the City Circle Stations of Museum, St James, Circular Quay, Wynyard, Town Hall then back up to Central & on to ultimate destinations out of the city. Some head across the bridge to nthn suburbs stations. The light rail is virtually right outside the door & services this top end of the city, being particularly helpful in getting to the Powerhouse Museum, Chinatown & Darling Harbour with the Aquarium & the Maritime Museum & of course the Star City Casino. What I enjoyed most after a day of conferencing was to have a workout in the fully equiped gym then shower off & have a swim in the 20m heated, indoor pool then finish off with a spa, but not the sauna that was available also. The hotel's website (within all MIrvac Sydney hotels) is showing between $150 & 185 (Australian) Breakfast will be additional, but there are cafes round about where you can get a cheaper brekkie. Helpful Tip: Do a google search & see what internet booking sites come up & what prices you can get. Check the hotel's website below. Also talk to your own travel agent. See who gives you the best price & what you feel most comfortable with. | | | | Marriott Sydney Harbour Hotel: Great views of the Harbor Bridge and Opera House
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
While checking in, the front desk upgraded us to an Executive Level Suite. The suite was wonderful with a great living area with sweeping views of the Harbour Bridge, half bathroom, writing desk and ample living space. The bedroom also had beautiful views of the Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay/The Rocks. The master bathroom had a standing shower, double sinks, separate toilet and the jacuzzi!!
Fantastic views of Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay and the Rocks. Staying at the Executive Level floor recieve complimentary breakfast buffet until 10:30 am, afternoon hor douvres (unitl 7:30 pm) and complimentary drinks and dessert service until 9:30 pm. Yeah, this includes champagne, yum!! Beware, during our visit the hotel was charging AUS$ 29.95 for internet service. If you don't have plug adaptors the hotel will provide them for you, just remember to return them and they will be deducted from the final bill (at a whopping AUS$20 each, no reason to keep them). I found this on Q'beds. My partner and I were, coming to Sydney for a few days.Let me tell you ,this is one not to be missed. I travel all over for my work and have had some really bad B&B experiences, but this one is awesome. There is more style about this place than you can poke a stick at. The atmosphere is really friendly. The rooms are very comfortable, there are only two, one double and a single. You share a bathroom which is spotless.(They clean it every day) You share a large balcony overlooking the garden with tables and chairs.Highly recomend to evryone I know ,both here and OS 6stars!!
What can I say. Beautiful house, great garden, fabulous art collection.Food to die for. We had dinner at night which costs a little extra, but well woth it, 3 courses with wine and cheese and coffee .yummy!! The Bush experience was something else. A chance to get up close and personal with Kangaroo's, Wallabies, Wombats, great wine ,Food, >The Wombeyan Caves are fab, plus all that Aussie History to experience. Dec and Peter are great host, really put themselves out to make you comfortable. The pick up and drop off at the Airport is a great service when you dont know anyone to meet you. Love this place. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by Jenny and Hugh, the innkeepers. They welcomed us to the restored historic Cremorne Point Manor which was built in the 19th century in the "Federation Style". If you are going to stay here please note there are stairs that you will need to ascend as well as descend. There was also a small space heater in our room, which worked efficiently and since I blew my hair dryer out, hairdryers are available on loan from the front desk! We had a fabulous view of the Sydney Harbor from our room and from the wrap around porch! The beds were very comfortable and the only complaint that I have is the squealing pipes. In old houses I am sure this cannot be help but nonetheless it did NOT make our stay here a poor one.
The queen suite we stayed in was the most expensive ($120 AUD), it had a small refrigerator, hot kettle for making tea and coffee. We had a table and chairs set up by the back gable and watched the Sydney Harbor traffic. Cheaper rooms can be had for as little as 59.00 AUD per night you will have to share a bathroom with another guest.) There is a kitchen facility for your personal use; and an other feature: a light breakfast of cereal, toast, juice, coffee or tea. The hotel offers coin operated laundry on the premises. But the best feature of this house is its accessibility to the ferry that goes to the CBD or the one that goes to Mosman. There is also the Cremorne Point Nature Reserve which is a lovely walk especially if your walk takes you to the ferry. Leave a Comment
