 | Ko Tao Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 43 | | Well, accommodation was more expensive than expected on Koh Tao. As long as you don't do some dives, prices tend to be quite high. Sairee Beach Hut Resort had by far the best value we found. They have two different kind of bungalows, smaller with fan only and newer and bigger ones with fan and aircon. We opted for the newer ones as they looked a lot nicer and paid 700 THB/night (without aircon though). The staff was very friendly and helpful and the food in their restaurant was yummy. AC has several huts that are just a minute's walk away from Sairee beach. The staff are always friendly and helpful. At night, the music from AC bar could be heard thumping away in the distance until around 2am. So for light sleepers who turn in early, AC may not be the best choice. Otherwise, AC is overall a nice place to stay. Near to the town area Mae Had too. If you are diving with them, they offer accomodation and diving package rates. Very competitive rates.
On my second visit, I noticed a swimming pool was recently built there. Huts are cute, basic but clean. Lush surroundings. At night, I feel like a hobbit character in LOTR, living in the Shire :P Leave a Comment Theme: OtherPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Sairee Beach

The Black tip accomodation is spread out through the hillside and some very pretty gardens and paths. Its half price if you are doing a diving course aswell. think it was 250b a night for a double bed and shared bathroom. The bungalows were really nice and the staff down at the beach bar were very chatty. Leave a Comment

There are about 20-30 bungallows close to the sea and some of them are put directly on the beach, a few meters away from the water. We came there to stay for 2 nights but we stayed for 4, cause we loved the place. This "resort" is placed along the shore, between other similar place. The good thing is this place is much cheaper. For example, the next resort, "Coral Diving Resort" has exactly the same bungallows, placed exactly the same and is twice more expensive. The "Bao Thong Resort" seems to be ran by an old Thai lady. The place is quite clean and, although you get no breakfast included, you get hot water and instant tea and coffe. The beach in front is very nice, especially in low tide, when the water retreats and you can sit and read in verry shallow warms waters. The place is quite tranquille. They don't have theor own restaurants, ,but there are two restaurants on the sides and you can get good food for decent money.
Good value for money, nice scenery, good beach and water, especially for families with children. The Coral Grand Resort offers a choice of rooms for every budget; comfortable bungalows at the beach or pool with air conditioning and cheaper rooms without aircon. The bungalows are beautifully furnished and comfortable, the staff is very friendly and the food is great but inexpensive. Breakfast was also good.
The resort has a pool which is unusual on Ko Tao because it is not necessary, but it can be useful for divers practising before going to the dive sites. The restaurant is directly at the beach and as the resort is located at the end of Sairee beach the surrounding hills offer great views. Leave a Comment

Had just been reading in a Koh Tao info book I had picked up in Bangkok of a place called 'Sairee Cottage', but I had no idea about the distance from the ferry pier and how we would get there. So when we arrived at Koh Tao with the sun pouring its heart into pounding down on us, all we could think about was dropping our bags off somewhere, so we took the first truck that came by offering to take us to Sairee Beach. It was an expensive ride (50yuan / 3.50 pounds) for a 5m ride, but as I said, for first time arrivees this is the easiest option. We learnt that the second time we went there to just rent a motorbike from near the pier for about 200Baht for 24 hours (20yuan / 1.50 pounds). Everyone seems to hire motorbikes or 4x4s when in Koh Tao. You just need to leave your passport and pay in advance. Anyway, we ended up at another bungalow for the first night and moved to Sairee Cottage the next day early before the next ferry came in. It was 100 Baht cheaper and in much nicer surroundings than the previous place we were at so we were happy. The first time we stayed there we stayed in the bungalow marked 'X', and the second time we were in bungalow marked 'MD', which was the same price but yet bigger. So try to go for the ones further back from the beach as they're bigger and better!
All the bungalows have inside toilets with shower and sink but the water is cold. But with the sun heating the pipes outside, it's really not that much of a big deal apart from when it's been a sunless day and then that's when you hear the screams! He he! There are different styles of bunglaows ranging from 300Baht to 700Baht. When we were there the second time round, they had knocked down some of the 300Baht ones and were building new ones which they were going to charge 200Baht a night for which is good news for single backpackers. I presume they are going to be single bungalows as the 300 ones have big enough beds for double occupancy. The cheaper ones have fans inside and the expensive ones have air conditioning and maybe even a TV too. But who needs TV when you've got the most beautiful sights outside your window everyday!? All bunglaows are a stone's throw from the crystal blue water and white sandy beaches. The attached restaurant opens at 8am and stops food at 10pm with a two hour break from 4pm-6pm where the staff have a rest. I will definitely stay here again when I next go back. It has a restaurant on the beach front and the bungalows are just set back from the main pathway.

It wasn't easy to find true on-the-beach bungalows on Koh Tao....even if there are, they're usually pretty expensive....we found one on Sairee beach, for like 500 baht! The beach in front of the bungalow wasn't perfect, but it was the best we could find for that kind of money. And the interior wasn't bad at all, fan-cooled with a double bed and a clean bathroom. We had problems locking the door though....but we felt pretty safe so it was okay. You can't book most of the budget accomodation online, so what we did was to simply walk along till we saw something we liked.
One of the rare accomodation that we could find directly on the beach.... Leave a Comment Theme: OtherPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: Around the middle of Sairee Beach

set among palm trees on beautifull sai nuan beach, sai thong bungalows are only accessible by longtail boat. The Bungalows are very basic with cold water only, all are equiped with fans and mosquito nets. they all have balconies with hammocks on them. electricity is available from 6pm till 1 am. The restaurant serves delicious food at very reasonable prices. the staff were all very polite. there is no night life or tvs at sai thong but the Siam Cookies bungalows next door has a bar/disco right on the beach. Sai thong has a spa and massage centre, beach volley ball court, small library. There is a scuba shack right on the beach where you can hire snorkel equipment. The water around the resort is clear and full of fish and coral.

Virtually right on the beach the resort offered a variety of room combinations. We had a 3 person room with fans (not ac) and it did the job just fine. The rooms were clean and all that, but to tell you the truth, we didn't spend much time in them, a closet probably would have served just as well. Oh well, the resort itself was beautiful! A pathway took you up from the beach through a gorgeous jungley garden setting up to the swimming pool and the rooms. The pool was nice, (a good way to rinse of some of the salt water after a long hard day at the beach) and the office had internet access. The resort had a little restaurant on the beach and was a diving school also. Over all, very nice digs and fairly affordable too, if i remember i think it was about 350 baht per night and the first 4 nights were free if you took the diving course, which we did. It was great. I would recommend this place, but there are tonnes of other really cool places, each with a special kind of character that makes it unique.
This was one of the nicer places on the main beach when I was there. It totally looked like a Melrose Place set up (if any of you remember that show, or even know what I am talking about) with a nice swimming pool surrounded by the flats. One really nice thing about this place was the landscaping around it. there were a couple of little gazeebos where you could chill out in the shade and read or listen to music or just relax. As i mentioned the pool was a nice touch, but everything just really seemed to come together well. It was a nice happy place and a step up from some of the other more bare bones places.
