 | Northern Thailand Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 18 | | Not very impressive from the outside (well, there IS a big poster of Thailands King right over half the front), the entrance hall makes it even. -Very impressive with all the ornamentation (some of them more indian looking than thai). We booked it, because we had a day before and one after the tour we made in Chiang Mai and the hotel was also the one we would stay on the tour. So we would not need to change hotels and could alos leave some of our luggage here when we travelled. We were positively surprised.
The rooms are clean. The double bed is that big that 4 adult people could sleep in it easily (in any direction :-). The staff is friendly and helpfull. Morning buffet was very big (everything you want and more). Also the hotel is quite good and centrally located, only 2 minutes walk from the night market, but out of the traffic. There are also some good restaurants close by, if you do not want to use the one of the hotel. Leave a Comment

Very nice hotel, located so, that you have a wonderful view on the Mekong River and the Golden Triangle right out of your room.
Clean and nicely decorated rooms (lot of wood), big bed. Balkon to sit out in the evening. Quiet in the night. In the evening while having dinner in their restaurant, they offer a short show with local dances, quite cute made actually - not so professionel as elsewhere. Buffet is good and with many choices. Well, I am pretty sure that the Hilltribe Houses these Bungalows are constructed after are not that comfortable as what you will have when lodging here. This is not a real hotel, but there are several Lodges or Bungalows. Like the originals they stand on "legs" and are almost copletely made of wood and bamboo. The surroundings are very green, park-like. Evening buffet under the stars.
In one Bungalow are 4 rooms, each complete with big bed, shower and toilet separately. The windows are always half closed (because of their construction), that gives the room a warm look, too. Only one thing. The walls are a little thin, so you can hear very well, what your neighbour does ... Leave a Comment

A cheap and clean place to stay in Chiang Mai northern Thailand, some rooms have AC while others come only with a much needed fan. Grab a local taxi and take a trip up to Wat Prathat Doi Suthep at the top of the mountain, I went there twice, it's full of outstanding images, jade buddahs, gold everywhere, friendly people, you may even get a blessing from a monk. If you wake up early in the mornings, go out for a walk and you'll see the daily life of the people there, young monks out with their begging bowls, there is no (?) just why not.
There is an open air restaurant sitting area with very good food cooked while you wait. This place is very close to the night market and many shops and restaurant that you won't need to look anywhere else, ( but you do anyway. ) there is so much to see in Thailand that you'll need a few weeks at the least. Don't make the same mistake that I did and buy up the whole country in Chiang Mai, plan on purchasing back in Bangkok on your way out or you'll be giving away most everything. I also found with the humidity, that both my camera's expierienced a shut-down of sorts, so be prepared for anything.. One of the better sites that I found is www.chiangmai1.com They have some great information on Chiang Mai as well as a great listing of most if not all of the guest houses in Chiang Mai with a price list. Only problem is that it does not list web sites for these guest houses, but you can google some of them to see if they even have a web site, many will not. I would suggest contacting the chiangmai1 website contact and see if they can help with reservations if you need them. 5 weeks,! have fun! Good Luck

Perfect service and crisp white sheets with a location that is right in the middle of the college/Orchid Hotel/Amari Rincome area. Pick up service at the airport and tailored service makes you feel like a king.

Palm Springs City Resort is a fine old hotel, with a wonderfully friendly staff and the perfect place to stay after a busy day shopping in Chiang Mai. A tuk-tuk ride back to town is only 5 minutes away and will cost you only 80 bhat. We have been staying here since 2002 and just love it. There is one restaurant just a few minutes away which specializes in fish, but we more often than not just stop by the market on the way home. Market food often is better than restaurant food and is far cheaper. Two can eat like kings for less than $5. Leave a Comment

Traditional Thai wooden house, also has bungalows at rear backing on to river. Owned by American gentleman for last 7 years who has good knowledge of the area and can arrange most activities for this area.
