 | Eritrea Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 10 | | Hotels and pensions in Eritrea are often in beautiful, old colonial buildings. Most of them are very clean and well-kept, yet very cheap. Even in Asmara, you can get a clean, large room for 2-3 USD! Out in the country towns, the variety diminishes, but the prices and the cleanliness seems to remain the same everywhere - except Massawa. I spent two nights in the Dahlak Hotel on Taulud Island (in the city). I found it comfortable, clean and nice and the staff very knowledgeable and helpful.
Good connections to any other service including boat trips to Dahlak island. Good and varied breakfast. This is (was?) the only hotel on theDahlak Islands. I did not stay overnight, but took shelter for the worst heat of the day and had a good hot lunch meal and drinks. Nice hotel on a desert island. Even if there had been more choices I would have gone for this, still... Suited me perfectly.
Located on the shores of the western main bay of Dahlak Kebir facing the mainland, it is a great starting point for boat trips, desert hikes, fishing, snorkelling trips, you name it. The hotel will priovide equipment. The shores here near the hotel are rough and rocky and the lagoon-like inlet is tepid and not so attractive. But by help of a small boat it takes no time to find great places for fishing, snorkelling etc. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterAddress: Dahlak Kebir IslandDirections: In the Dahlak Channel by boat, and go toward Adel village on the bay's north shore.Other Contact: Contact via Dahlak Hotel, Massaw

I stayed in Barentu just before the Ethiopians bombed the main hotel there, and sad story is, the hotel owner with it. It was a white, gleaming building with some style and a big courtyard. I hope it is being rebuilt. If not, accommodation is available in the centre of the town, just below, on the north side of the government hill. There are some restaurants there, good ones, too, and some double as hotels. If you got to Dahlak islands, you won't have any choice: you have to sleep at the owned state hotel of the island. Simple, but clean...but you have to fish if you want to eat! The laggon in front of the hotel is magnificent! No beach at the hotel, everything is coral, but you can easily take a boat to got to the other islands 20 $ Leave a Comment Theme: HotelComparison: least expensiveAddress: Dahlak island

No service, laundry was never done, the lift never worked, some staff were OK, but the managers did not care about anything.

This is a good low cost pension. The woman running the pension is very nice. Recommended. This is a nice place in wonderful Asmara. It's a neo classical Italian villa with a pleasant garden. I recommend this place to the few visiting Eritrea. It's next to the Italian embassadors home, in a quiet neighbourhood.
Friendly staff, a 'family' atmosphere, close to Liberation Ave, the center of town. Tv and drinks in the lounge. Leave a Comment Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Next to Liberation Eve, opposite of the cathedral into the hood.
