 | Cairo Reviews | Tips 11 - 20 of 391 | | In my Egypt pages I wrote about the Victoria Hotel which we stayed in whilst in Cairo (please refer to this tip for more information). This affordable Hotel is an old fashioned styled Hotel that George Bernard Shaw used to frequent when he came to Cairo. Yes it may be a bit older than some of the more up market and upbeat Hotels around but the rooms are spotlessly clean and are regularly serviced each day and they are large in size. If you like Old worlde charm which isn't falling apart but beautiful big staircases and mahogany furniture than this could be the Hotel for you. Breakfast is included in the price and is a wonderful array of cold meats, cereals, jam, toast, salad vegetables, fruit, eggs, rolls, bread and so on and of course tea, coffee and juice. It has a great downstairs lounge where guests can sit and relax after a busy day's sightseeing, there is also a outdoor area where you can sit as well as another "sunroom" style lounge room. Off to the side is a fully equipped bar and a Cyber cafe, Hairdresser's, Currency exchange and Gift shop.
This Hotel is a real treasure and I was grateful to come back to it after the hussle and bussle of Cairo city. It's lounge was a great way to meet other guests and some we have kept in touch with to this day. The doorman was very helpful and we didn't mind giving him a tip as he had good general knowledge and could speak English reasonably well. The hotel is centrally located and makes a great base to get to all the Tourist attractions. This hotel (built at the turn of the century) was long used as a British Colonial Officers Club and has preserved much of the atmosphere. The rooms are OK, the staff is very friendly and the breakfast (tea and toast) is exactly that little what you can eat after the unavoidable digestion upsets have hit you.
The remarkable charactereistics of this place are its very central location (one Metro stop away from the Railway station and two Metro stops from the Egyptian Museum. A hidden gem is the very stylish bar, one of the rather rare opportunities to have a beer in Cairo.. Leave a Comment

We stayed there. Someone advised it to me. We took a look at the website and it looked OK. The time we went there was in order to attend the engagement party of a friend of us in Cairo. I asked him to book this hotel for us, he paid. He said: "Dora, are you sure?? It is less than 1 star??" I said: "Yes!!" I didn't know what to expect. But I was very pleased! The rooms are clean and spacious. Also the bathroom. There is an Airco and a balcony. Even rooms with view on the Nile. We asked for more quiet rooms. The traffic can be very noisy in Cairo. In short: I loved it! Good quality for money! Great to meet people. And I could receive my Egyptian friends over there. It seems to be hard to enter the 5 star hotels as an Egyptian.
Clean, spacious rooms. Great bathroom. Views on the Nile. Nice personel. Downtown Cairo. 5 minutes walk away from the Egyptian museum. Just next to the Semiramis hotel. Leave a Comment

The Maadi Hotel is located in Maadi district, near the Nile, in a residential area. The hotel has 16 floors, a swimming pool and a fitness center on the top terrace. It is rated 4* although the rooms’ furniture and fittings are quite old. Still the staff is very polite and friendly. The lucky ones might receive a room with the view on the Pyramids (from the 7th floor up). For a couple of days in Cairo in order to explore the city, it is a convenient choice. | | | | Sheraton Royal Gardens: Gambling in the Heart of Cairo
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
During Sarah and I's trip to Egypt, we spent a couple nights in Cairo at the Sheraton. It was a very nice welcome to Egypt, and I must say this was up to Sheraton's standards. This hotel has a very convienent location for activities in downtown Cairo, and it is a bus or cab ride away from the pyramids in Giza. The bed was nice, the restaurant for breakfast served great food, and the hotel casino was the icing on the cake.
The casino here definitely made this hotel a unique place to stay. The hotel will not allow Egyptian citizens to play in this casino, so it really is just for visitors and hotel guests. The players were quite unique, as they came from all over the world. I sat next to a Saudi, a Jordanian, a Canadian, and a Dutch gentelman all at the same table! Leave a Comment

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. New, altough it appears dusty and old on the outside. Clean and cheap (40-50 EGP). I never stayed overnight in the hotel, but was left with a good impression. My partner and I left our backpacks for the day. We were even offered to take a shower when we came back. No charge.

We stayed at the Pharaohs Hotel three seperate times during our time in Egypt. The first time we stayed on the top floor in a room that didn't look like it had been cleaned...we also had brown water coming out of the taps... The second time we stayed there the room was clean and basic... The third time we had a nicer room with a balcony looking over the Nile and a double/queen bed. :) We were in a good area though, fairly quiet at night and walking distance to shops, the Nile etc. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 12 Lotfi Hassouna St., Dokki, Cairo, Cairo nullPhone: 7610871Directions: Not far from the Sheraton CairoWebsite: www.pharaohshotel.com Other Contact: pharaohshotel2003@yahoo.com

 | | | | Mena House Oberoi Cairo: Palatial Oasis
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
From the moment we entered the gilded lobby of the Mena House, we felt like royalty in a truly palatial environment. Unfortunately, our travel agent had booked us into the newer garden wing - if I were staying again I would reserve a room in the original Palace (I mean, why stay in a palace and bunk in the garden!). The restaurants and public areas are in the main located in the palace and are opulent and spectacular. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and welcoming. The staff are nice, if a little officious. On the first morning we were assured at reception that residents didn't need a reservation for dinner in the main restaurant (where there is a floor show each night) - but we were bitterly disappointed that evening to be told that there were no good tables left n the restaurant! I was disappointed in the pool area as all of the pool was deep, there was no shallow end, and thus noplace that you could wallow in the searing heat. Also, because it's located in a garden there are more flies than youmight tolerate.
Wherever you go in the hotel the pyramids are visible in the public areas - both from the windows on the public rooms, and also from the gardens. It was wonderful.
