Garden City House Hotel will be a good choice of budget hotel in the heart of Cairo, nearby the Egyptian museum. If you get used to the luxury hotels, DO NOT COME HERE. It is an old hotel, even the entrance will be looked scary. The reception will be located on the 3rd floor of the building, so you won`t be impressed with the entrance gate. I got this hotel by an advice of a VT member. Beware, when you book the room. They have some bedrooms without AC and shared the toilet with other rooms. Nevertheless, you will save alot!! You may get the private tour service from the hotel (around 100-200US$ for 3days with the private tour guide and car). The bathroom is clean as well as the room. Check out the pictures. Bring your own slippers and face towel. You will pay around 20-25US$/day with the AC room, great view at the balcony, private bathroom, breakfast and dinner. Breakfast and dinner are good enough. Check the website.

The price is good for a hotel in the Cairo City that is near to the Cairo Museum (5-10minutes by walk), few steps from Tahreer square, and nearby the shops and the restaurant. It has a great view of Nile River. When you book the room online, MAKE SURE YOU ASK THEM FOR THE ROOM WITH AC, PRIVATE BATHROOM, HAS A NILE RIVER VIEW, AND AIRPORT TRANSPORT. Remind them about your room few days before your arrival.

Sheraton Royal Gardens: Sheraton Royal Gardens    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:

  • During our brief stay in Cairo we stayed at the Sheraton Royal Gardens.

It was conveniently located close-ish to the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum.

Classed as a five star hotel, it was quite nice, but not "five star" by western hotel standards. There was a nice looking resort-style pool area and a few different restaurants to choose from.

However, our room was a bit shabby, and the bathroom appeared to be in mid-renovation. Though that said, it was perfectly adequate for our needs....and a whole lot nicer than many places we have stayed before.

We ate breakfast one day and lunch on another day in the 'Pyramids Cafe' at the hotel. It was buffet style, and offered a pretty good choice to keep all diners happy.

The hotel is not in walking distance of any of the attractions, and most people that stay here are on organised tours, like we were.

I have stayed at this hotel 5 times now & it is by far the best hotel ive been to. The service is great from all the staff, it feels like im being welcommed home when i arrive here. All the other tourists stare & wonder why all the staf are welcomming me so much. Which feels great.

The reception area looks absolutely gorgeous, its got stunning marble floors all round, nice comfy sofas & chandeliers hanging throughout & you can help yourself to this juice which tastes lovely, i forget the Egyptian name for it, Its like walking into a palace for sure!

There are many places to eat here at Le Meridien Pyramids, my favourite is the Shisha Cafe,It has some lovely paintings around the room, cushions scattered allover the floor so you can chill out & relax & small tables around, they serve some gorgeous food & also light snacks if you just fancy a late night treat, plus the Shisha they serve here is the best.... make sure you give Mohammed a good tip at the end, thats the shy young man in the white gown who serves the Shisha.

Also the Nubian Village is great for a night out, they play live music each night & you can sit and enjoy a drink or eat there, we went there one night because it was my Egyptian friends Birthday. The Nubian dancers play live music & dance all night so we decided to join in for a laugh, it was a great night, all the people at the hotel were passing by, watching us & joining in which was a great laugh. I was sooo tired by the end of it all.

One of the reasons i love this hotel so much is the great view from your room, when booking this hotel make sure you book a Pyramid View room.... they are well worth the extra cash. The views are outstanding & great for some holiday snaps.

I also love the swimming pools at this hotel, there are about six in total all ajoining & they look stunning at night when lit up, there is also a swim up bar which is really nice & there are shallow ends for the children too. The waiter service is great too, they will come round regularly when you are sunbathing to see if you would like anything to drink.

The rooms at the hotel are spotless cannot fault them whatsoever, they are cleaned daily & the maids even leave you fresh dressing gowns & slippers each morning which i thought was really nice. I even got sent some flowers on one of my stays to welcome me back.

Mena House Oberoi Cairo: The best view in town    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The combination of its location and history together with a truly fabulous Indian meal (I do like my curries)in a beautiful restaurant, acres of gorgeous, perfectly manicured gardens and wonderfully OTT decor made a stay at the Mena Palace very special. Sitting on the terrace with a long, cold drink, soaking up the atmosphere is quite an experience and walking in the garden in the cool, early morning is magical. The service is excellent. All in all, a great experience, especially if you make sure you book a room in the old building - which really was a palace - rather than the newer, blander garden rooms.

If your taste is for gleaming modern glass and marble -give the Mena Palace a miss. But if the Pyramids are the reason you've come to Egypt (and for a lot of people they are - though MrL swears they've been moved, he remembers them as being way, way out of the city when he first saw them), and atmosphere and charm count for more, then you really should book yourself one night at least in the Mena Palace Hotel. Even if it's beyond your budget, do stop by for a drink, or come out for a meal here. For nearly one hundred and fifty years now the hotel has been a Cairo institution, long may that continue.

Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino: Just another hotel in Cairo
  • Tip Rating:

  • It is a beautiful hotel, the gardens are splendid. The casino looks really nice. Several nice restaurants inside to hotel's garden. The service in general is good.

The only thing that disappointed me was the tones of dust under my bed. And on the top of that, if you look carefull in the dust you would notice a note saying: yes, we look here too :)

On our way back to Cairo for the night, and a plane trip to JFK the very next morning... Sarah and I stayed at the Movenpick Hotel. We did not get in until 1am, so I can not say that I got to experience the wonderful pool (although I did have a nice pool view). The beds were comfortable, the view was great, and the breakfast was top notch.

Very close to the Cairo International airport.

    Delicious breakfast buffet.

Excellent pool.... and a very very comfortable bed!

Nile Hilton: Still a great location    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Rather more comfortable than Mr L's first stay - it was the 6 Day War and he and the crew of his workboat were evacuated to Cairo from Suez and deposited on the top floor of the hotel for the duration. Well, we had to stay there for old times sake, didn't we?

It's still is a nice hotel - newer ones may be bigger and smarter, but the location is perfect, right next door to the National Museum and, being a Hilton, it has all the facilities you would expect from a hotel in this chain. The view from the rooftop terrace is wonderful, especially at sunset, you only have to step across the road to walk along the Corniche and the Ancient Egyptian panel in the lobby is the real thing.

  • Osiris' smallish but clean room - Cairo
    Osiris' smallish but
    clean room

I discovered Hotel Osiris through Tripadvisor - it was listed as the best hotel among 81 listings for Cairo (across all categories). I'm usually cautious about so-called 'independent' customer reviews, but for this one, I thought I'd give it a try. It's not easy to search for the hotel's website (and I never found it prior to my trip), but luckily, reservations could be made through travellerspoint.

This was probably one of the best decisions I've made for this trip. Not only is the hotel centrally-located (about a 10-minute walk from Midan Tahrir, close to American University in Cairo (AUC)), but the rooms were clean, although a bit smallish (hey, this is a budget accommodation). I got a single room with T&B and paid US$ 25/night, inclusive of standard breakfast of toast, jam, coffee and crepe (the French twist to an otherwise boring breakfast). The best part? I loved their crisp linens, comfortable bed, and yes, pristine towels - comparable to those of the Hiltons and Sheratons.

What's more, the couple (Nabil and his French wife Josiane) who owns and runs the hotel go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. They could also arrange transportation service for you if you want to see the sights within and around Cairo - at very reasonable cost. I asked them to arrange a taxi for me to go to Saqqara, Dashur and Giza, and I paid EGP 120 (~USD 21) for the entire day's trip.

While a budget hotel, the crisp linens, comfortable bed and pristine towels are 5-star. Level of service is also outstanding. Highly recommended.

I really recommend this hotel becasue is right at the pyramids of Gizah, check the picture. This luxury hotel has all the amenities, falilties and services.
Oberoi is an Indian chain it was built originally as a hunting lodge by the King of Egypt.

The main building is an old palace with the best rooms and views. Then, there is another area crossing a garden (new area very simple) with rooms with view to the pyramids and other views.
For me the best experience is to swimm in the swimmingpool watching the pyramids.
It has different restaurants, not too expensive... a French with life music, an Indian with live Indian music and different restaurants for a quick bite.
