 | Alexandria Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 72 | | This is not the first hotel I went to, but Union was full. I’m glad I came here, as Crillon is a lovely place with a nice old atmosphere. The restaurant is on the second floor and here breakfast is served (you can also have lunch and dinner). There is a nice view and breeze from the sea. The reception is on the third floor and has friendly staff. Rooms are on the 3rd, 4th and 6th floor and vary in size and price. Most expensive are the rooms (high in roof) with balcony facing the sea. They were fully booked with people from Cairo on vacation. A double room with bathroom is 84 pounds and a single room (actually a double) with bath is 62 pounds. My very good friend Ahmed brought us here for 2 reasons: It was inexpensive, and he lives with in walking distance. At first I was skeptical. It wasn't what I wanted after leaving Cairo and the insanity I had been going through. It was clean enough but I thought I wanted more amenities. I changed my mind, and I was glad that I did. It was clean, the staff were very accommodating in spite of the language barrier. Our first stay we were on the 7th floor, in a room over looking the Mediterranean Sea. When I opened the door, the wide window was open, and the soothing breeze enveloped me...I began to relax. The room wasn't that big, but it did hold 3 twin size beds with the most comfortable mattresses that I've slept on since Switzerland, over 25 years ago. There was a corner balcony that over looked the sea as well, and with both windows open to catch the cross breeze, one doesn't need A/C. The hotel has a dining room on the top floor which has windows on three sides. Nothing fancy, but you do get Egyptian breakfast consisting of coffee/tea, pita, croissants, olives, feta cheese, some type of soft buttery cheese, jam, small cakes, hard boiled eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes for free. The second time, we stayed on the 9th floor. I do recommend staying here if you want comfort and inexpensive. It was described by a guidebook as the best budget option in Alex - and it probably is. The rooms are clean, with sparkling T&B. Location, right in front of the Corniche, in central Alex is very strategic, although you may still have to commute to some sights as they are spread out across the city. I got a deluxe twin room with ensuite T&B for USD 20 - it was larger than standard rooms in 5-star hotels. Decor was so-so, and I didn't have a view of the Corniche - but these were immaterial to me. Breakfast, which was inclusive in the price, is typical for budget places - jam, toast, eggs, coffee. The only drawback is their pricing (posted at the check-in counter) - it was fixed and you really cant bargain even if the place is not full. An indifferent welcome from the desk, one lift out of order...not a good start. The rooms were quite small , but plenty of hot water for the shower and the plumbing all worked. Draw back the curtains, the Mediterranean. What a view. The laundry arrived early the next afternoon, DRY, and it was cheap.
Placed on a point on the Corniche the mecca has geat views for the money. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: On the Corniche
